I would be down but this coming week is going to be busy. Gonna be hauling the kids around solo due to the wife going out of town. I really only have Monday, Saturday or Sunday that I could work something out. You looking to just grab a beer or you talking a hike or something?

Would be like a beers type thing, gauging interest but feel like there are enough in Houston area for a regular type meetup

I'll be following this thread. I'm in the Kingwood area. Looks like we are kinda spread out around the Houston area, Spring, Cypress, Tomball, and I'm sure there are others outside the Houston area. But yeah that would be cool to do some type of regular meetup.

Great idea. I am interested.

I'm on the south side of town (Friendswood). Will keep an eye on this thread for more info. Thanks.

I just started the draw process in several states, so will be 80 when I start getting drawn....thats OK I guess because Im really out of shape. Been jogging a bit but its been hard to stay consistent with a million things getting in the way. Gotta buckle down!

Im north of Magnolia, Plantersville area

Energy Corridor area here... I hit a lot of stairs and try to jog 3x per week. Really tough for us flatlanders to be ready to be mountain goats with our terrain

Yes it is! I rucked my loaded pack 6 miles around the woods of Memorial Park yesterday as part of trying to get ready for Alaska sheep in a couple months.

What we don’t have in elevation we more than make up for in mosquitoes and heat! I found both yesterday in excess.

I ran 2 laps at Memorial Park on Saturday morning... was totally drenched. luckily running keep the skeeters off, but the heat is unavoidable. I'll start rucking evenings in July / August...

Super jealous of Alaska Sheep, im just prepping for elk

I’m training for my first elk hunt this year. I’m between Conroe and Cleveland area. I have a pistol and rifle (200 yards) range at my house with PRS barricades and stuff to practice with as well. I have a couple buddies training as well all former GWOT marine infantry.

Anyone preparing for a 2025 hunt? Looks like I’ll be doing OTC in unit 81, second rifle.
I thought about joining mountain tough but trying to weigh my options. I already pay for a Peloton membership, (I usually do some hit and hills bike workouts and Considering adding in the strength program), and there is a good mountain tough free pack workout online. So I’m considering combining the two, along with weekly rucks and possibly some running.
Curious as to what my fellow Houston area peeps are doing. I also would like to try to link up to do some pack hikes/workouts in the Houston area or Sam Houston national forest. Let me know. I’m in Kingwood.

I'm on the north side in The Hoodlands. Not too far from the Sam. Jones State forest is close too and used to be some good trails for getting in miles.

Also curious which packs everyone is running for hunting and training. I have a mystery ranch Marshall, but have been using a cabelas pack for training. I don’t really like the cabelas pack for rucking, it’s a little too big I think. And I don’t want to mess up my hunting pack. Anyone using something that they like for training/rucking?

Good to hear about all the Houstonians here. I’m out of Kingwood and like most here am pretty swamped with kids but manage to get out west once a year and trying to up that to twice a year. Currently going through the NM options and then on to the Colorado draw after that.
