I would like to know people’s experiences with the 147 ELM on whitetail and mule deer when hit in the shoulder. Did you get penetration or did the bullet break up on impact.

Try the search, there's a lot of data on that bullet.
Summarily, they break and penetrate through shoulders, hips, whatever else on all NA game. Including moose.

I’ve shot about 15 white tails with them at all sorts of angles into the front half and have had great performance.

OP, you do realize that you are asking the equivalent of:

I have this 1/8" thick piece of plywood. Will this 147 grain bullet traveling 2400 fps penetrate through it, or can I safely use it as a 200 yard backstop to prevent the bullets from entering my neighbors property?

Shot two whitetails right in the pocket if not a little low at 315 & 385. Neither went 20. The 6.5prc hammers them

I've shot with match bullets like the ELD/AMAX for years in different calibers. The biggest drawback is they wreck a lot of meat and spray lead all over the place internally.

They work great but you will have meat loss. I shoot them behind the shoulder in lungs and they die just fine. I have shot a handful through the shoulder and they also die. My 6.5 creedmoor shoots them well, I bought enough that my barrel will be toast before I run out of bullets.
