I’m a Midwest whitetail hunter that currently uses a Horn Hunter G3 pack for treestand hunting. It serves its purpose well hanging in a tree but how will this work as a day pack for elk hunting? I see a lot of people using MR, exo, etc, and wonder if upgrading to one of those will making hiking around all day a more comfortable experience or if it’s just a waste of money. Any opinions or feedback is much appreciated. Thanks

You said day pack. G3 is 2200 cubic inches - should be just fine.

The only thing is it doesn't have the straps and attachments specifically to haul an elk quarter - maybe just bring the backstraps and loins back, grab a meat frame and 2 buddies to go get the rest?

I have a Mainbeam XL and got it to do a hike-in elk hunt that never happened. Use it as a day pack too. They advertise it as able to carry big quarters and I'm willing to give it a go If I shoot one. Some day I'll get there. Really like that pack.

So the MR Pintler would only have the advantage of having a frame to haul meat out. Normal walking around will not be any more comfortable?

From my experience there's a definite change in comfortability in a pack when you make a upgrade from a mid level pack to a top end such as MR or exo ect. That horn Hunter will get the job done but after packing out a heavy load you'll feel a noticeable difference between the two. I made a switch from a Badlands to a kifaru and just putting both those packs on with no weight in them you can tell a big difference in quality and comfortability, hope that helps
