I have both. I don't think I'll go back to the 44 mag. I ran the 44 with the sherman pocket for added room. Used it on a 6 day solo and it was stuffed full and had my tent strapped to the outside. This year, I ran the hoodlum for the same length of hunt with one large and two med belt pouches. Had plenty of extra room with everything inside the bag.
For day use, the 44 was a little more of a pain to get into with the clam shell design. I liked the compress-ability of the hoodlum for day mode and the ease of getting into the side zips without having to undo a bunch of compression straps. I never had an issue with snagging of the belt pouches on anything.
