Honda generators convert to propane?

I feel like there has to be more to that story. Just one random source https://www.parkergas.com/2024/11/04/how-much-propane-does-a-generator-use ballparks 1-2gph for a 7-10kW generator and 3-5 for a 22kW. Since their home is so large let's use the higher number. 300 gallons / 5 gallons per hour is 60 hours of runtime at 100% power, and double that at 50% which is more realistic. Something doesn't math here.

Agreed. Burning 300 gallons of propane in 1.5 days doesn’t seem reasonable for a home backup generator. That’s about double the fuel consumption I would expect for a 20-ish kW generator running at full load.

In my opinion, the best part about a dual fuel generator is being able to completely clear the generator of all gasoline in the carburetor prior to storage. All of your jets and passages should be cleared of fuel by running propane through the carburetor after you turn the gasoline off.

A couple of things to clear up here.

A 20lb cylinder will hold approx 4.7 gallons of propane. If 1 gallon runs your generator 10-12 hours, then your run time will be much longer that what you have stated, or the generator will not run that long per gallon.

A 100 lb cylinder holds approx. 24 gallons, not 10.

Any DOT cylinder is measured in weight capacity of the liquid it is going to be filled with. 20lb tank, 20 lbs of propane.

Propane weighs 4.2 lbs per gallon.
You misinterpretted why comments.

When i spoke of gallons it was referring to gasoline. Not propane.

From my research, 100# cylinder has about same run time as 10 gallons of gasoline.

20# cylinder is supposed to run 24 hrs. 2 gallons of gas will do that.

Thats what i was trying to say.

That’s an awesome comment.

I have a Honda EU2200i generator and Hutch Mountain tri-fuel conversion kit, along with a 40 lb propane tank. Just wanted something to stow away to keep fridge/freezer and some lights going in the case of a power outage so propane seemed to be the way to go. I used it in eco mode during a ~6 hour outage and burned about 1.5 gallons of propane. The conversion was simple.
