No, but I put M-80s in a few.
Seriously, when you mentioned that, I thought "what a good idea"
Just build a chimney and store everything inside plus probably have room for more. You're gonna put Kifaru out of the stove business :) Let us know if you do this project.

They stand up pretty good to M-80s ;)
I fully intend to build one for this season, I missed the boat on ordering one in time...

For sure not the best packable option. I plan to build a couple of them and pack them in on my scouting trips to the respective spots and leave the box. During the season when it gets cold, I will just carry the Flue around. At 10$ per box from Balmart no big loss. That's the plan in theory anyway, the season is fast approaching....

Not a big deal to strap it in the grab it or lash it to the back on the hike in.

No big loss till you get there and it's gone. Then I bet it becomes a big loss :D

Great idea! I found one in Idaho made out of a very old milk can. What about the paint? You think it will burn off?

I think it will burn off in the first 5 minutes....
A milk can would work great too.

Phase 1 Complete

I cut the existing lid at the end of the half circle for the door and dampening system. The top of the mailbox will be the bottom of the stove. I used rivets to hold things together.

I also shortened the mailbox from 20" down to 14"

Very well done Ron. Good idea flipping upside down....flat cook top.
Nice job on the damper too, should be able to choke it right down.
Well done.

I know a guy that has been using them for years. He works for the city and collects the ones the snow plows hit. He has a cheap military tent and a mailbox stove in 4 or 5 drainages where he hunts in Montana. He just stays at the nearest one. I think he stores the tent in sealed buckets.

Just thought I would show my stove. It's made from sheet metal and a galvanized steel box. I have not cut the holes in the front yet. The picture with the pen is for siZe.

Looks good guys. I would burn that mailbox before I put it in your tent to burn the paint off. I don't know if it is bad but I would burn it to be sure.
