HOLY CRAP!!! Did you guys see the price of the new Tenzing pack????

Am I reading that wrong, or is just the 3.5 pound carbon fiber frame cost $699. Then you purchase a bag of your choosing? $800-900 if that is the case.

Doesn't look like it has functional load lifters.

I think the $699 is the cost with the 3000 cu inch bag. If I remember correctly it is a 24 inch frame so that picture is probably for someone with a 21+ inch torso. But who knows.

It is closer to KUIU. I would be curious if any ICON pack owners wants to waste I mean spend $700 to get one and compare the two? I would be real curious....

I think they would of sold a TON of these packs if they hit that $400-$500 price range just cause of a lot of ignorance of some people... Heck they probably will with the current price tag. One thing I don't like is that top lid design with a single strap. Doubt you can get very much verticle compression on loads stacked on top of the pack like a caped out elk/deer head.

It does come with a bag, some extra compression straps, hip belt pocket and one other thing I think.

Well I bought one!. Didn't pay 700 though. I sold my bikini frame and money was burning a hole in my pocket so......... My friend, also a member on here, was kind enough to let me borrow his 2012 icon 5200 to see side by side. I pick up the tenzing today. If anyone has any questions maybe I can post pics and such.

Ams, what was wrong with the bikini? What size bag did you get on the Tenzing?

Post some pictures of your side by side comparison. I would be very interested to see the two frames next to each other.

I have some of the same skepticisms as previous posters, but I would love to see how it turns out. Hard to tell without getting time with it.

Ryan, the bikini frame is fine but my duplex fit better and I prefer the solid feel of it. Muleman, will do!. 24 inch stays work fine for me and the tenzing is a 24 inch frame if I'm not mistaken so I'm curious aboit the lifters.

NOT!!!! Thats pretty retarded. I get Carbon Fiber is expensive but jesus. They are kind of full of themselves on this one. And yes that has a striking resemblance to a Bikini type Frame with addon bag. Tenzing Engineers prowl on Kifaru site? =-)

How is it like a Bikini frame? I don't get what your saying?

Kurt, Aron and Patrick have nothing to worry about. I have talked with the founder Jay Roberts. He doesn't get it. He doesnt want to make a pack for extreme hunters instead he is cruising after taking the thunder from the Eberlestock/Badlands/Cam Hanes fanboys. They make enough money from guncases and tackleboxes to be able to do whatever they want. They have a huge group of celebrity endorsers some to their product's detriment.
They do have good customer service and have remedied the problems that they had with poor zips.

I am no outdoor professional. I don't have the time or resources to really do what I would like to do but hey life ain't perfect. I get in to rough country every year and this year I may get to do two sheep/goat trips and one caribou bowhunt. My Tenzing 6000 failed on a starter trip with my wife. 20 miles round trip up the arms of lower Barnard Glacier with 50-100lb loads. We got into good country but the zip to the tripod pocket broke. Tenzing remedied this but after I discussed the direction that I felt they should go with Roberts I got the distinct feeling that they don't care specifically with their customers but are instead occupied with niche sales and image. Too much webbing with limited functionality. The top tier makers like Kifaru, Stone Glacier even Mystery Ranch or Kuiu would not tolerate a product that would essentially crap out on a training hunt of limited duration. My Dana Design K2s keep coming back grinning after walk ins or deep country insertions.

They worked on a prototype pack that was 7500 cu dynema grid cloth with increased durability with the internal stays with expandable meat shelf and less webbing. However, they decided to not go that direction and come up with a hybrid external(cf13).

Jay Roberts may have some outdoor experience but he doesn't understand that packs for the real backcountry have to be bombproof. That is why packs like stone glacier and Kifaru can charge more their product is made for a LIFETIME of abuse or something like of abuse- with concepts that are field tested for wilderness and follow the principle of occam's razor. The most simple and direct solution is always the best one.

I really don't think any of cams rock hauling videos can correct the damage of the Whiney Keefer brothers dragging their tenzing packs down below their backsides on project Dropped Yukon.

But hey what do I know.

This cf13 might have the street price of $699.00 but they have a much lower real world price.

Sincerely,
Thomas

Just unboxed it and its pretty sweet in the hands. It comes with the 3000 cu bag which is a nylon on one side and dyneema ripstop on the bottom and side that touches the frame. Duraflex buckles but no markings on the zippers so I don't know. The material is really soft and quiet but feels durable. Waistbelt padding and strap padding is on the rigid side but could break in nice. The hydration pouch is in the load sling but is also a long pocket. Waistbelt looks like it bottoms out at around 30-32 and will go up well over 40. The belt pulls nice and tight. Might get to load it up later tonight and go for a stroll. Anyone have questions?
