Yeah buddy! I'm dreaming of the screaming! Drew a once in a lifetime tag (only 25 tags for the first two weeks of the season), and it's my first archery elk hunt. New to me unit but have been scouting as hard as I can - it's like a 4 hour drive and family obligations don't end just because I drew a tag. Can hardly sleep at night!

Hope you are able to get out some and get into them! The bow worries can be a good distraction. Take care out there and hope your wife finds healing!

I thought August 31st was coming quick before I picked up an unclaimed archery antelope tag that starts the 15th! Time for scramble mode!

I just had to go buy 6 more arrows after losing a few the past we weeks taking me down to 8 remaining. I am dealing with some target panic. I am going to lay off shooting so much and only go to the range with larger targets. Pretty annoying thing to be dealing with I hope I can shake it and the accompanying stress I am feeling holding a good tag.

Good luck on everyone's hunts I could use some positive archery vibes myself.

if you think thats a clown show, you clearly haven't worked for any government agency or locality
Hope I don't upset anybody, but I sure get tired of folks on here that complain about public lands and wildlife management. I've been involved in it since the early 70's and also an avid hunter since the early 60's. I can tell you that the resource specialists and managers at the field level (& I'm sure this is true with State fish and wildlife agencies) have a deep passion for their work as they sure as hell don't get paid a lot for it, they went through a loy of money and hard work to get qualified and hired by agencies, and they do it because they car deeply about resources and conservation. They have to adapt to changing administrations and politics quite frequently, sometimes every 4 years, while trying to manage resources to benefit them and you as public users. You guys really should be thankful as there wouldn't be any public lands to hunt on or game to hunt out here in the west if the folks at the field and resource management level didn't care about your public resources. Soooo, please stop referring to public lands management as a clown show. It is really discouraging to those at the field levels. There is no doubt in my mind that most hunters on here would make the same decisions regarding resource management that these field-level specialists frequently make when presented with the same data and information.

Ummmmm Bruh .. at what point was i disparaging INDIVIDUALS. . Ive been a contractor and staff like person for the usg for a long while. I have many friends that are usg staff, VA state staff, and locality staff. Like any business, org, or agency there are good and bad employees... you will not hear a single one of us will tell you that government is efficient or the best at what it does(unless it's war or spending tax dollars). the bureaucracy and BS processes are straight clown show.

You didn't ask for advice, but I'll offer some. Spend some time so close to a target you can't miss and shoot at a blank target. If you don't have a blank, close your eyes as you hit anchor. Take aiming out of the shot process to get the shot execution back to subconscious control.

It always sneaks up fast...time to get focused on shooting and rucks.

Best of luck this season!

Thanks. I actually think I have found the solution. Went through the ShotIQ Controlled Process Shooting course and have been to the range twice the past two days using his process. Has cleaned things up dramatically. Somehow I had fooled myself into thinking I was not punching the button and letting my wrist break, but I was punching the button. Confidence is now on the upswing just at the right time.

Sooo guess we should just let the public lands go unmanaged......or sell them off to States so they can sell them to balance their budgets (there is a documented history of this and Randy Newberg has pointed it out in some of his podcasts in the past). My point is, these resource and resource use staff work for you-they do their best to ensure that public lands are managed in a manner that you always have a place to hunt and go recreate. I have sat in on countless interdisciplinary team planning meetings for resource and resource use management projects over the years and I can tell you it gets ugly at times as they all represent their resource or use as if they were you sitting right there. They are dead serious and its anything but a clown show. Many of the wildlife biologists are die hard hunters just like we are. Yes there are times they have to make decisions that they don't agree with because they are directed to do so from on high. The clown show my friend is at the higher levels. Just watch a Congressional hearing and you can see the real clown show. Very frustrating at the ground level. Regardless, you can get involved in public lands management, get on a mailing list for projects in areas that you recreate in. You can make a difference and you will see just how hard these field-level offices work as a whole. I've worked for the USFS and the BLM all over the country and I can tell you they all work the same as each agency is bound to handbook and manual policy and guidance. Anyway, yes there are good employees and bad employees; however, from my 34 years as a field level federal employee and continuing work in BLM travel management, I have to humbly disagree that the efforts these field level folks put forth to serve you is a "clown show". Just hoping you can direct the comment where it really belongs.

I’ve never been this disconnected from the archery opener. I’ve shot my bow maybe 3 times , couple arrow each since June. Out of the country for work, beach bumming it, not even thinking of the season. It’s feels more like annoyance this year than something I like to do. Deer season will be different. No doubt I’m shooting the first legal bull.

Good luck to all you hard chargers!
