Hog Caliber

im new to rokslide and new to hog hunting...i been using a 6.8 with handloads...seems to work fine...i recently put my grendel back together...ive loaded some 105bk's and some nosler 100g ballistic tip wanting to get more distance for longer shots. wondering wut yous think.....also is there a specific "bait" that they really like? ive seen them eat the corn at the deer feeder but thought they may like something better.....preeshiatechas

Lots use corn with koolaid in it. But they will come to straight corn too. They do have good noses so anything with potent smell. They will hit diesel fuel.

The kill zone in a hog is lower and further forward than that on a deer. And no bigger than a cantaloupe. Google wild hog kill zone. And figure out your max range for shooting an animal that moves and fidgets a lot with a small kill zone. My longest rifle kill for a pig is 50 yards with a 300 blackout. Longest bow kill was 35 yards and that was an anomaly. Closest bow kill was 6 yards.

I agree that 243 has more spunk than 300 BO. 300 BO is quiet, after that, most other calibers are better for hunting. No experience with Grendall.

We used to "sour" corn - 1/2 fill 5-gal bucket with corn, cover corn with water, pour in a can of beer or soda. It will tell you when it is ready. they like that.

Lotsa guys use 223/556 with excellent results.

I jumped on the 300BO bandwagon for a short period of time and jumped off. Way better options. My personal favorite for hogs is a 6.8 sbr.

6.8 SPC will check your boxes. Especially on recoil and follow up shots. Since you already have a suppressor I recommend going for a 2 stamp rifle and having Bison Armory put together a 10.5 or 11.5” barrel upper. Just make sure to add the AGB to the build. And SBR the lower for the 2nd stamp. I run the 10.5s….and they are highly accurate and reliable. BA can also do a longer barrel if you do not wish to SBR your lower.
