I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a Hilleberg Akto and am curious if anyone has used the outer fly with the inner mesh tent that Hilleberg sells? Does anyone have a total weight for outer fly, pole, pegs and mesh inner?

I would also be interested in hearing anyones first hand experiences with this setup.

Thanks in advance guys...or gals.

I would take a look at the Anjan and Soulo as well.

I read somewhere the two liners are nearly the same weight. If you are going places where interior condensation is an issue I would definitely stick with the solid fabric.

IMHO the Akto is one of the best single man shelters ever made. I wouldn't hesitate to take mine anywhere, except for heavy snow conditions.

Hey Josh,

If you want to give me a call tomorrow, feel free. I've been using Hilleberg shelters for a long time and can give you some info on all the models (pro's and con's).

Josh, the mesh is actually heavier than the regular. My regular inner tent weighs 16.4 ounces and my mesh weighs 21 ounces. The Hilleberg site has the weights also.

I was kinda hoping the mesh inner would shave some ounces and keep the no-see-um's out. It would seem reasonable that with mesh there would be less fabric (or less density) and thus, less weight. I guess that theory is shot. For my purposes, I think the mesh liner will be a no-go and I'll just stick with the standard inner.

Thanks for the info guys

The mesh inner will breathe better and has no condensation inside as the regular inner can condensate a little. Look at fiibraplex pole for your akto, half the weight of regular. Also, msr carbon stakes, cut the metal zipper pulls off and replace, get rid of all the stuff sacks except the main one and replace guy lines with Kelly trip tease. You can get the akto down to an ounce under 3 pounds.

RosinBag:

That is badass info. In your opinion, in regards to the mesh inner, is the juice worth the squeeze? Meaning do the benefits of the mesh inner offset the additional weight?

Not for me. I am an ounce counter that is why did all those mods. You can leave the inner tent unzipped near the top or open all the way to eliminate condensation issues. The Akto is the best 4 season solo tent made for 3 pounds.

The only downfall to the Akto is the footprint of it is larger than most. It takes a lot of room to set this tent up properly to make it stout in the wind or snow. If finding space isn't an issue, this tent is solid.

Rosinbag, Have you considered cutting out the small wire that is shapeable? Vent? Thanks man
