Hiker lost on Colorado mountain for more than 24 hours ignored calls from rescuers because they 'didn't want to pick up an unknown number'

If I’m lost I’ll gladly talk to the extended warranty folks. But then again, if he had signal, why not call 911?
I don’t think he was the on worried about it. Bigger question is, if there was celll reception, why wouldn’t the parties talk amongst themselves. I would guess the ignored calls were from when he was down with reception and already on his way out

Sounds like he made it out just fine on his own. "Lost" and "emergency" are all relative terms. I would have probably blocked the number after the 2nd call. But in reality "IF" I had my phone with me, it would have been "off".

Maybe fake news. I mean really, can that many people be that stupid????????????????????

The way I read the article is that he didn't make it back before it got dark, hiked out in the morning, and never really considered himself in an emergency situation needing rescue. Once he was back in town, he started getting unknown calls and didn't answer them - no surprise. Probably didn't even realize SAR was looking for him.

But that kind of story doesn't get this kind of attention. So, here we are with a bullshit headline to rile people up.

Jesus you guys… Can’t we all just come together on one issue and make the assumption that this lost hiker is a Subaru driving progressive with no common sense, and collectively blast this individual for being stupid?

There‘s enough division within our ranks as it is. Here’s a perfect opportunity for us all to just assume the hiker is a moron and that any hunter would have enough common sense to do the opposite of what this guy did.

Instead, guys on here start trying to think through this and see it from the perspective of the hiker. This kind of critical thinking thinking is going to be our downfall.

Let‘s get it together guys!

Uh yeah. I bet he was too busy vaping to check the phone...

Let's say you're lost.... have cell reception... but only 3% battery life remaining....

Are you answering an unknown number?

no, but I’m dropping a location to my wife and texting with my intended direction of travel.

Or just calling

Ya, except.......most hunters I know don't answer calls from unknown numbers or even have their phones on in the first place. Since this guy apparently did the same thing......we can only assume that it was in fact someone similar to us.......not different. ;)

I put all the blame on the person that reported him missing. "Now honey......you know the routine.......I have to be at least 48 hours past my intended return date before you start calling the cavalry.........and at a minimum, please send me a text before calling them in".

He was probably using his phone as a flashlight and only had 6 % left
That said if I was lost I would answer and tell them what was going on , I am bedding down for the night and walk out in the am with daylight

Classic-

Probably prayed to God to get him quickly out of there and show him a sign.

If they'd have found him dead, Peter at the gates of heaven would have said "What in the Hell are you doing here? God had rescuers calling you and calling you, why didn't you answer?"
