High Country Hunters

I think high country is relative to the habitats available to the particular animal/herd. For migratory herds, I've always thought the high country is the summer range that is typically above/higher than their winter range.

By comparison in Colorado - the bears ears herd's "high country" is considerably different in terms of elevation and habitat than the "high country" used by the roaring fork herd.

I hunted high country buck in Colorado several times since 1996. From my experience the deer hang out right at treeline to above in the early season. Treeline in Colorado is about 12,000, my archery elk camp was at 12,100 nestled in some 6' tall "trees".
