I have been wondering about this same thing. My truck does not have a keypad to get into the cab. I am often worried about losing my key fob while hunting. When hunting, I generally toss my key fob in the bed and put something over it. I always assume the chance of me losing my keys is higher than the chance of the truck getting stolen.

If I am traveling to hunt and someone else is there with me and has a vehicle, I will often give them my spare key fob.

Let me know if you find a good solution for hiding the extra fob that isn't inside the cab.

I don’t have a truck with a fob, but I keep my magnetic spare key holder on the bottom side of the bed rail, that way if it ever were to fall out it falls into the bed, but it’s never fallen out.

most new vehicles wont let you lock the door with the key inside, my bronco wont allow it.

Have you tried pressing the 5 and 6 button on your keypad?

My 2020 F150 XLT will allow you to lock the key in the truck but I have a keypad to unlock and re enter.

Fords equipped with an external keypad will allow the doors to lock with a key inside the passenger compartment. I place a key fob in a Faraday bag so the vehicle won't detect it and hide the Faraday in the cab of my truck.

You can’t lock the car from the outside with the key fob inside the car. That’s a good thing.

I’m on my 3rd Ford with the door keypad and I’ve locked my keys inside each of them every day I’ve had them. Throw the keys in, shut the door, hit the last two keys on the key pad and all the doors lock. Hell I just got a new one and can confirm it still works

Buying a ford without the keypad gives up the single best feature of a ford IMHO.

2023 Ford keypad locks with the fob in the vehicle, I keep mine in the mini glove compartment and use the keypad so I don't have to carry keys in my pocket.

But, OP needs something else. I use something like this under my work truck. The whole fob fits in it.

for my work truck I put the extra key / fob in a ziplock bag then put it inside of a box of screws like the other 25 boxes of screws, tools & other crap laying in there

I can remove the one license plate with the key under it with the back of my pocket knife, a dime or a penny. If worse comes to worse, I would rather take a rock or something and tear the plate off than have to break a window or walk several miles to get help.

I guess I have the "privileged" answer here because if I'm ever that far from home (and a locksmith) I invariably have my camper with me. That has a keypad on the door, so I just leave the fob in the camper. I do keep it in a side nook where it's not very noticeable if somebody did break in (I've had a break-in happen).
