Here I thought Ryan Lamper was one of the good guys for the hunting world…

I am curious about this as well...I know tourism boards work heavily with influencers of all shapes and sizes but to give out sought after tags seems like a stretch.
Arizona did not give him (Newberg) any tags. If he was given tags it was from another state. He did contract with and was paid by the state (AZ) to promote under subscribed OTC opportunities.

All 3 of those scenarios is exactly what hes charged for.
1.) He allegedly shot a deer out of season.
2.) He did not posses a tag for the unit said deer was allegedly shot in.
3.) It was allegedly the unit next to the unit he actually had a tag for.

LOL
So it's exactly what I summarized it to be plus the out of season kill you've pointed out. Assuming it wasn't grossly out of season, I don't see how this rises to the level of a lifetime ban???
There's different dates for different units and weapons. If someone kills something in a closed unit and tells everyone they killed it in an open unit we call that poaching.
Are you suggesting that all "poaching" is equal?

Weird, the guy always shooting and posting pics isn't a better hunter than everyone, he's just doing it illegally and thinking he wouldn't get caught??? Who's gonna be the next one?

I'm surprised dudley or Hanes haven't been caught up in anything yet. Content content content. Need the content for the business.
They only hunt ranches and reservations. If either of them got clapped for poaching on public I'd be more surprised by them actually being on public land than the charges.

I don't personally know Lampers so I'm not defending him. I will however counter the idea he's automatically a dirt bag poaching influencer.

I've been around long enough to know anyone is capable of anything, including LEO's. LEO's are human too and have biases and personal views that affect the view of their job.
I have witnessed game officers try to make a crime out of literally nothing multiple times. I have other people I trust who have either gone to court and won or were under investigation that amounted to nothing because they did nothing. In that case, the apology or ruling of innocence is never as public as the accusal.

I'm not saying every game officer or LEO is bad or corrupt, but it just takes one to ruin someone.

For the sake of argument, Idaho code 36-202 designates any "mule deer buck over 150" BC" qualifies as a "trophy" for the purposes of restitution. Also the greater score of typical or non-typical is used to determine that score.
That makes ANY decent muley buck a potential "trophy" prosecution.

So if the game officer got one little thing to justify an investigation, he gets phone data. let's says there are locations in AND out of the open unit on the same day. phone data doesn't prove where an animal was actually killed or why he was there.
If ALL the GPS data is in a closed unit, that's different.

Is it illegal to glass into a open unit from a closed unit?

I know they probably have video they can compare to topography but it better be air tight.

Even though it's "innocent until proven guilty" now it's on Lampers to prove it.

IDFW going for max fine and felony charges smells like making an example of an out of state "influencer". It doesn't take much to find similar game convictions in Idaho where Joe Schmo got the minimum fine, probation and community service with hunting/fishing suspension being the heaviest penalty.

So why aren't there other people with charges against them that were there as well?

Like others have said, he struck me as the least likely to break the law.

If he did it, so be it.
I just get sick of the pitchfork mob reaction every time someone with a some notoriety gets accused.
I hope Idaho does go for the max fine iand whatever sentence can be handed down. Dude has made a career of the commercialization of hunting everything from knives, videos, he’s been on damn near every podcast with the host kissing his ass, glassing pads, and supplements specificallymarketed to hunters.

Far too long to social media types of got off light. They should be made an example of. They’re the ones doing everything they can to exploit every dollar, like, and follow from the hunting community.

I said it in the other thread, but it’s worth repeating. The hunting community and the hunting industry are two separate things with almost nothing in common.

Does it matter?! A closed season is closed season.
I'd argue that yes it does.

Your defense of this behavior kinda makes me wonder if you’ve used this strategy yourself.
I apologize if me trying to bring nuance to this discussion has offended and exceeded your intellectual capacity for critical thinking.
All criminal actions are not deserving of the maximum punishment. I don't understand how that's controversial.

I m sure a lot of this debate will be revealed and clarified through the trial. I’m sure not going to waste any time debating it with anyone defending him.

Hope he gets all he deserves. Hard to imagine how this is in any way accidental, given the amount of mistruths involved
I agree! I hope he gets what he actually deserves and nothing more. I also hope the Stukachi get what they deserve in this life or the next.

I'd argue that yes it does.

Are you saying as long as you have a hunting license it's ok to hunt anywhere in the state? That is what I am seeing you think is ok.

I'd argue that yes it does.

People bringing “nuance” usually don’t feel the need to post 900 posts on multiple threads involving this case - and they also don’t usually get emotional enough about the topic to throw snotty remarks at everyone who calls them out for it….

Maybe I should start a new thread for this but I'll just ask. For those of us that follow/see influencer types, do you need them to get a big animal every year, or is it enough to know they are a good hunter and some years you just don't get anything?

I don't need to see Robby shoot a 200" buck every year to still believe he's a great mule deer hunter and knows what he's doing.
