Anyone seen any updates on herd surveys as far as numbers? I know they were down last year and have been dropping every year. I’m trying to punch a caribou tag while they are still somewhat plentiful in some areas.

I have a hunt booked this September but I don’t know if I can make it. My wife and I had a baby in January and not sure we can leave her at home that long. Would be nice if I could find family that wants to go and babysit while we hunt but that’s becoming a dead end. I’d say take the kid with us but I’m not sure my wife would appreciate me even making that suggestion.

I’d hunt solo but I kinda want to spend my 40th birthday with my wife and kid which is sept 13th. And I’m not sure my transporter would drop me solo bc of his overhead costs,

My wife said take a friend and only one would go but I’d have to pay half his way.

Kinda stuck here…

Herd numbers don't really matter. Right place - Right time. There could be a million bou and you could not see one for weeks, or there could be 50 and you'd see every single one within your first hour. Good luck! I hope you get it all figured out and you get to make it up here!

was in a meeting this last thursday and even before the count with the satellite images the porcupine one is down.

Dang that sucks. I desperately want to hunt that area of the state or even the 40 mile herd but it’s Luke playing the lotto.

My transporter is pretty dang solid. He bombed us into a huge herd the last time we went. I think there were 8 or 9 bou killed off that ridge before they finally moved out. My wife’s was one of the biggest if not the biggest. I should have shot one almost the same as hers the same day but 2 bou down that far below the ridge was just not something I wanted to tackle with her having full blown strep throat.

Looks like I won’t be making it this year. Sucks too. I’m going to miss it. I need to call the transporter and roll my dates.

Not going is probably the right call. You’re never wrong for putting the needs of your family first.

Wife promised we will go next year so I rolled my dates. No biggie. I’m picked up a left over deer tag in Colorado bc my nephew wants me to take him since he lives up there. That will give me time to finish projects that are dragging anyways. I’ll still get a great hunt in. May not see a deer, but it’s better than sitting in Houston Texas! lol
