Hello fellow hunters. I drew a 7e wilderness hunt for arizona this year. I fell in love with this area several years ago when we were on vacation and did some back country driving and i saw that mountain north of Flagstaff. So i got pulled in the random pass this year for the october 4-10 hunt. Funny thing i did not expect to draw this year due to me putting in for the long odd units but for some reason i entered for 7E wilderness, so around march of this year i was looking at the cabelas card statement online i saw a bill from arizona for $650.00!!!! My heart stopped and i stopped listening my future wife about the wedding and logged on to the draw. Holly crap i drew a tag. She got mad of course because i got a one tracked mind at this time and starting explaining what this meant to us. Needless to say i was PUMPED. First thing i did was call Chappell guide service and ask if he had time to take me out this year and is this a horseback hunt. Got two answers from him. He had time to take me and it was a backpack hunt only. OOOOO BOY. So from that point i started working out rather vigorously to get into shape. Its working i estimate i have lost 20 lbs and gained 8-10lbs of muscle. This has not been fun for a guy that lives in a office chair most of the time and walks about 2-3 miles a day doing job takeoffs. But all the people that see me say how much better i look? So i did not look good before? LOL.
Any ways down to the point.
I have been on backpack hunts in the past and have decided to Do it myself.
Was wondering if anyone has info on this area that can be of help?
Ive watched the video of hunt that randy did and its very well done.
And i know that water is key for the elk and the hunter to live on this dead volcano..
Just looking for advice on where to start? does any one know about hunting the SE side, the Valley or the NE side of the Mountain.
THank you for your input
