I'm driving from Vermont to Idaho AGAIN this fall, all alone, because I was the recipient of a computer screw up and got a controlled hunt bull elk tag. It isn't the best timing for me either but the way that I figure...…

A bad day hunting (whatever that is?) is better than any day working.

Well I slept on it.... and I took the tag! I'm pumped and happy as hell I took it. Now the research starts because I know very little about this area. If anybody has any input on things to check out on the internet or people to get in contact with I'm all ears and would appreciate any help. I'm going to be doing my homework nonstop for this until the hunt to find out as much as possible. And thank you everyone for helping me make the decision I know it probably shouldn't have been that hard but oh well LOL. And I guess I need to go for a run now!

Forfeiting a LE Bull Elk tag for a upland game bird hunt!!!!!!???? Somone sprinkle some holy water on him or something! Brother needs an intervention. Ha. I'm playing with ya. Reality is you'll probably easily draw that same tag withing 2-3 again. Not the end of the world.

I started my post and got a call. Didn't see you took the tag before I posted. Thank you for re balancing the universe and not making me question my hope in humanity! LOL

Congrats.
I live about an hour south of the unit.
I'll never hunt it for le elk so I'll share what little I have.
I've got a pretty stacked fall but if I can I'd be happy to help pack.
Keep on touch with the bio.
Do you have onx for landownership?

Take it. The demand for limited Elk tags are not going to get any better. Take it while you have it

This ^^^

Take that from a guy with 20 elk points who was just one point behind on the hunt he wanted...then SWF stole the preference point tag in his and many other units. Strike while you have a chance, especially in Utah!

Just wanted to let everyone know how my hunt went in Utah. It was half with a buddy and half solo. It started off in believable rough with no elk sightings and no bugles for 3 or 4 days straight.. after that things changed dramatically and we had some awesome action. It was an incredibly tough hunt but I stayed persistent for 10 days straight with no breaks just hunting with a couple of close calls. I actually passed up a 200 inch 6x6 and hoped I didn't regret it later. But the way I thought about it was I am here on a limited entry tag and I'm going big or going home. If like to know other people's thoughts and opinions on that! Anyway on the 10th day the seal was broke, I hunted this bull for 5 days with out bumping him. And it seemed the more I learned him the smarter he got. Finally I noticed a glitch in his behavior and arrowed him at 30 yards! Just wanted to thank everyone that helped give a little convincing to take the tag I'm extremely glad I did. It was the experience of a life time for sure. Also the help of a couple locals including one on here played a big part in my success. I love the fact that people are willing to help and hope I can help someone in this sense one day. Now to figure out how to post a pic.
