What boots do you all use/recommend for an early season high country CO elk hunt? I think I need a little bit of insulation, 200g is perfect, but no more than 400g. I would like to spend around or under $300. I'd like something that is quite sturdy for the steep and rocky, but not too stiff that would make them hard for hunting elk up close (we are bowhunting).
Thanks in advance for any replies.

It may help if we knew what kind of boots you wear now and the kind of feet you have. People usually talk about arch, width, and volume. I have a high arch and usually wear a size 10 wide or ee. My feet love the large toe box in the keen milwaukees. See my reply under the work boot thread. I have the renegades and like them as well. The milwaukee in a soft toe version sounds close to what you want in support. Compared to the keens the lowas are like a gortex allterain high top tennis shoe. You can bend them in half and twist them a lot easier than the keens. I would start ordering boots from places like zapos to see what you like and how they fit. It will not cost you anything to return them.
