Okay, drew out a simple pattern for all the panels…and my material arrived!

I've been beating my head in trying to decide on a new harness for this season. Currently run the Muley Freak and the ropes get in the way of my side pouches and drives me crazy when you open it. Super curious to see how this turns out for you man!

Suggestion from me, if you do a rangefinder pouch make sure to think ahead and make it big enough! If you ever go to a Maven or like size it is kinda tough finding a case that fits them very efficiently!

I designed the wings big enough to accommodate some molle webbing. I’m worried about them getting in the way of my pack should straps, but I think this will work. I haven’t decided yet what will go on the wings - I don’t have a rangefinder yet, but a phone pouch and knife sheath are current ideas. But I shouldn’t get ahead of myself. This week’s goal is to cut out one panel and put it together as sort of a trial before I chop the material all into little bits.

Looks like you’re making some solid progress! That black spacer mesh will be great for this. I used it on a backpack I made and really like it. I’m guessing that blue fabric is your waterproof lining material? What fabric did you end up going with for that?

It’s HyperD 300. And yes, I got it for the waterproof lining.

Did the wings. Next up is the back, which includes another pocket. I was going to make it a zipper but I ordered the wrong size. I might make it an elastic pocket like the sides, or scrounge a zipper off one of the kids’ old outfits. Thoughts on zipper vs elastic? This is the pocket I like to carry my tags in.

More progress pics. It’s starting to look like something…

I had to baste together the panels because it was getting too thick for pins. I am at the limit of what my sewing machine can do, but it did get the job done. The seams with the wings are the thickest and they are done.

The bottom was tricky - I decided to not make a pocket for a deployable rain cover, and getting it to sew nicely into the sides was still difficult.

Later tonight I will try to make the liner, and add the padding. Then install them in the main pouch.

But my binos fit with room to spare for the padding, the zippers work, and I think the mesh pockets came out alright. Overall it’s solid progress.

Good work, it’s hard to figure through the designs.
It is. I’ve had to re-do several things after getting them backward. Luckily it’s just thread and I have a seam ripper. I didn’t put a drawing of everything all together, just the pieces to cut out.

Update! I got the liner put together. I cut up a yoga mat for padding and glued it in place, then sewed a pouch and glued it, and finally sewed it in. This is my second try at a hood. Not necessarily happy with it, but it will be easy to swap it out if I can figure out how to make it better. I still need the actual harness part, but I am 90% there.IMG_2254.jpegIMG_2255.jpeg
