Help Me Avoid the Mouse! (Disney World)

We took our 7 & 9 year old kids to Grand Canyon and Sedona this past January and they loved it. There is a place in Williams called Bearizona that I wish we took them to, but did not. We also took them to an old volcanic area north of Flagstaff that was pretty awesome too. We stayed in a very nice VRBO in Sedona, which made my wife happy.

As others have stated, definitely wasn’t my idea of fun, and never went as a kid, but wife had awesome childhood memories of it and my kids loved it to no end. I cringe looking at the price tag but have to remember the trip isn’t about me. My thoughts, go watch your family make memories together and cherish the smiles.

Growing up in south florida I have fond memories of going there around Christmas and “camping” at Fort Wilderness and going into the park at night sipping hot cocoa and watching fake snowflakes fall from the sky. Now the park is filled with different kind of snowflakes LOL! Just kidding! Go make some memories!

Do you want your future son in law to have to deal with this Disney nonsense ? Quash it now. The examples brought up here about the organization are great:
Real vs. manufactured experiences
Anti hunting
Leftist trash
Brainwashing kids
If we were talking about something else it would be a no brainer . Then we hear the waaa but the look in my kids eye , the my wife had the best memories .

We could be talking about a pride parade and all the same reasons to go and not go . But no one would be getting slack for going.

It doesn’t have to be only that or only this. I went to Disney many times as a child and didn’t grow up to be leftist trash. You can call many things a ‘manufactured experience’ such as plays, theme parks or just even characters at a fast food restaurant and that doesn’t brainwash a kid. You can enjoy the outdoors and real life experiences and also enjoy going to a theme park. If the OP’s family has made sacrifices with time or money to allow him to enjoy time away hunting, I think it’s a reasonable request to do something his wife or kids are wanting to do. Compromise is key.

Soooo…. If you really want to avoid Disney (I have a 7 month old daughter and we will never step foot there) and persuade your wife to also never want to go there you can go down the rabbit hole of Disney’s politics and how the cater to the woke mind virus. I could help you out and post some videos of men dressed up as princesses around little boys and girls but they are easy to find. If you dig just a little bit you can find employees that were arrested for child and hired by Disney after the fact. Even a few employees that this happened to while employed there and still retained their jobs.

Plenty of pedos at Disney….

As a kid of 10 years old went to Disney once. I barely remember it. When I was 8/9 years old I took a trip with my cousin and my Grandparents from Ohio to Yellowstone in a Ford LTD and a camper. We stopped and saw many things along the way. It was a long trip. About three weeks to a month. But I remember almost all of it. If I only had a week I would fly out to Yellowstone and rent a SUV. Spend the week in Yellowstone. The hell with the mouse and his commercialized world.
The mountains made a huge impression to a flat cornfield kid.
Whatever you do plan on eating out every meal. Going somewhere and having your wife meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning up ain't no vacation for her. Don't ask me how I know this….

I think I was 11 when I went. My grandmother and step grandfather took us in their rv. We stayed in a campground on a lake next to the park (Florida). There was a free water taxi that took us across to the main park and we had passes to three different parks. In 5 days I went to the main park, road a few roller coasters, the road the tram/train to each park (solo) to check things out. All of that took 1.5 days. The rest of the trip waded out and fished in the lake that was full of largemouth. Also did this solo.

I had more fun fishing….

I do all sorts of things I have zero interest in for my kids. Disney isn’t for you, it’s for your kids. Just do it and enjoy watching your kids have an amazing time.
First post, so take that for what it's worth, but reading over this thread, this was exactly my thought. I'm sure your wives make sacrifices for your hunting trips. It's not always about you.

I'm talking about Disney World.... my goodness, that Mouse likes his money!

Wife asked to take the kids to Disney World next year. I am all about "Happy Wife, Happy Life" -- so if that's what she want's, I'll make it happen. But I figured I'd at least look into some other options to float by her. 1 week trip, Annual Passes, Animal Kingdom Lodge, air travel, Food... honestly this trip would be pushing close to $15K.

Any other options you guys think I should look into to possibly sway this thing? It would have to be "Grand" probably. Talking small boat cruise to the Galapagos Islands or something crazy to that equivalent, but more family oriented 😂

Kids are 7 and 9, totally cool with traveling. We've done all the major national parks, 10 days in Iceland this year, etc. kids had a blast. Just having a hard time swallowing that kind of money to go stand in lines, bump shoulders with 1,000 people, and hug princesses -- knowing it could be turned into an absolutely amazing nature oriented vacation. Give me all your ideas!

Skip the mouse, go chase fish.

Geeze some of yall guys need to lighten up.

Its just a theme park. Its not indoctornation.

Doing what your family wants goes a long ways to having them do what you want. Maybe if you go and pretend to have a good time you might accidently have a good time.

Eat a dole whip.

Sure about that? What if the company that owns it is really deeply sick?

TL;DR- Disney hired a convicted pedophile as one of the directors of a children's show. People started noticing and asking questions... like, "what??" Instead of axing him and admitting guilt, they defended him until it blew up enough to really threaten them.

If you think that's the only example, I've got a beautiful beachfront property to sell you in the Sahara

Dude dont do this.

Any of the same could be said about the catholic church and the boy scouts. And those are supposed to be shining beacons of morality.

Frankly you would have a hard time purging disney out of your life with all the stuff they own. I hope you dont watch any TV or news or sports. Hell you cant even watch national geographic without supporting disney.

don’t do it
Take them on an African safari
Heard those were incredible family trips
Without having to stand in line with weird adults that go to Disney every year like they are 3 year old

Well it sounds like we will be there next fall. As mentioned above, compromise is key. I am doing a drop camp for elk in Oct which is chasing my personal dream. Followed by family trip to Disney for my wife's dream.

Following thread for tips on vs off campus and fast pass or general tips? My girls will be 3 and 5, niece and nephew will be 8 and 4...

My wife takes kids every year. I’ve been 2x. I don’t hate it I just don’t like it. Some cool rides though. I suggest 3 days at Disney 2 days at universal.

There are ways to cheapen it up depending on your CC usage. Example we don’t usually have to pay for hotels. We use Marriott points. Normally get at least discount flight in some fashion based off points also.

Kids will have fun, if you aren’t use to heat be aware of the timing of your trip though

Man, that's a really weird thing to say to someone calling out child abusers.

Sure don't

Funny thing trying to occupy the moral high ground while trying to say you are morally superior to someone else.

Slinging mud just degrades you to the same level as those you attack.

You win. I'm out.

Seems like in the end it’s a personal choice.
Guys asking for a way out are going to go.
Hell I work with a guy mid 50s he and his wife go at least once a year. Kids are grown but, they still go.
My daughters mom and I were too poor to go and smart enough to not borrow money for trip that would zero balance on our daughters future life.
I like cruises, many think of it as a floating hell on earth. It’s all good 👍
