LS Wild is in the process of bringing a new stock to market. I am collaborating on design and doing the footwork for the project. Also, while @hereinaz will be chiming in on the thread, I have been assigned to be the point man for Rokslide, thus why I’m the one starting the thread.

Mission: To create a properly designed laminate wood hunting stock that has proper geometry, yet will be carried easily, and in an acceptable weight. Laminate allows for the feel and vibration dampening of real wood, while being able to bring it to market at a price that everyone in the game will be able to afford.

I have been in touch with manufacturers and a designer for preliminary info.

Here’s a concept photo: (ignore the Boyd’s stamped on the butt, they’re not making it)

IMG_7057.jpeg

Please keep in mind that this is a concept photo, not final design. It’s very KRG similar, but that was just a close design that I could modify for a concept.

Inlet: Tikka, of course, using standard Tikka bottom metal

Barrel channel: Typical chassis barrel channel. This means no barrel contact issues, and reduces weight

Forend: sporter-ish forend about the length of a Stocky’s VG forend.

Comb: Comb will be at centerline of bore, with a negative slope.

Grip: Close to 90°, with approximately a 1.75” trigger reach. The material at the wrist will have to be taller than pictured to avoid breaking. The finger nub may or may not stay.

Toe line: nice flat toe line

The skeletonized buttstock is necessary for dropping weight, since laminate tends to be heavy. We will make the window as large as possible, while retaining necessary dimensions for structural integrity.

We will be doing everything realistically possible to make it as light as possible. I don’t have numbers on that yet.

Give us realistic design inputs. If there is a reason you wouldn’t buy this stock, what is that reason, and would you purchase if that were addressed?

Also, realistic suggestions for a name would be great.

Okay, talk to me!

If you made a master sporter style stock that was readily available for t3x you’d get a lot of interest. The above looks great though

Interesting concept and I'm interested in seeing what the brain trust here on RS comes up with. At any rate, I noticed the trigger guard appears to be made out of laminate. I'm assuming the actual stock will delete that and use Tikka, Hawkins, etc. bottom metal instead.

Interchangeable grip like an XRS with the possibility of some adjustment for trigger reach.

Ruger American inlet for AR15 mags.

I wanted to get that in on page one. 😁

As in, the butt is vertically aligned with bore centerline and the front of the comb is below it, or the front of comb is aligned and the butt is above? By how much?

Why? If its laminate it shouldnt be subject to wood grain direction. It can also be reinforced if needed. But imo if you fatten it up too much it makes it a less versatile stock, as well as adds weight.

Any chance you could bridge across from the comb to the top of the PG and make a thumbhole-type stock for strength?

You are correct. It will take standard Tikka bottom metal. The laminate trigger guard is just a holdover from a design that I had AI modify for me, and the AI has it’s limitations lol

How much weight does the skeletonized buttock cut?
Not exactly sure, but probably 8 ounces a minimum, with more towards 12-16 ounces I’d guess. Laminate is heavy. Achieving acceptable weight is the biggest ask of this project, but we feel we can reach it.

Great start! Not sure if you’d run into patent/trademark/copyright/etc. issues ( I imagine you would) but it you could mill the inletting larger to be able to accept something like the Grayboe universal mini chassis that would be pretty cool.

The top of the buttpad/comb will be at bore centerline, then slope negatively from that point. Maybe with a slight radiused slope as pictured instead of a straight angle. We are pretty insistent that the bolt be able to be removed while the action is in the stock, so we will be doing our best to accommodate that.

Laminate is layered in the same direction, so some geometries can’t be accomplished with laminate. At the wrist, you have to have material above the datum line of the bottom of the forend. Meaning: material at the wrist above the red line in the following picture. Doesn’t have to be a ton, but at least 3/8” or 1/2”.

From feedback I already reached out for, any thumbhole type, even very large and open, is not wanted by many serious users.

We’d be willing to pursue this, but then the question would be: Are purchasers willing to pay an additional $100-$150 to have an aluminum bedding block that runs the length of the action?

We’re listening
An adjustable butt stock option line the master sporter or KRG- adjustable for height and angle. It looks like you’ve got an adjustable comb planned as well. 14.14.5 in lop would be great.
