Converting my Knight Ultra-Lite to a bare 209 primer system from musket caps using the Knight kit, but 209 primers (777 primers) aren’t firing. The firing pin is hitting the primer and dimpling it. Does this conversion also require a new firing pin assembly?

you have the firing pin assembly screwed all the way into the bolt body and the secondary safety screwed all the way out? I'm using a western firing pin assembly in a bare primer bolt in my disc extreme and it works fine.

Yes, I’ve checked & double checked those. Any other ideas?

Have you called Knight ands asked for assistance? Probably a goos start. I have the same gun and it can be finicky if you do not assemble the bolt properly.

Knight’s email response to me:
Did you purchase the whole bare primer conversion kit with the new breech plug and bolt? Answer-YES. Knight- The firing pin is the same so that wouldn't be causing a problem. Did you make sure the firing pin/cocking piece are back in correctly? That could stop the firing pin from coming forward enough to ignite.

I have had problems with mine when I did not have the bolt assembled within specs. I do think the spacing is more critical than than you would think. If you look at there Knight Youtube video on both assembly they say space should be between a dime and nickel. I have found that I need to be closer to the nickel spacing. I personally don’t like the system but the gun shoots lights out so I deal with it.

i did one yesterday on a DE. Once the safety is screwed all the way in should be about a nickel spacing in between. Also the spring must be positioned and lined up properly with the bolt:

I screw mine in all the way, back it off about 1/4" to line up the tab with the detent notch. Been shooting it for 8 years. Not one misfire. This is how close mine is....

Let me say (as nicely as I can) that Knight’s customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I contacted them by email recently (twice) to ask about a part for my Knight Peregrine. Took them more than a week to reply. The reply was very short and didn’t answer my question. I asked another question or two and got another short non-answer. I wouldn’t count on them to help with any problem if my experience is any indication. ☹️
