Hello all, I have a friend who is starting to get into hunting and is on the search for a pack frame. My experience with packs and pack frames itself is pretty limited. I know what I have and what works for me, but more or less ceased to research or look after I had it "figured out" for me. I know there's a lot of good knowledge on here, so maybe some of you folks can help me steer her in the right direction.

We're NOT looking for a day pack here. Rather, something that would be suitable for a couple day trip, or possibly a week. A meat shelf is definitely somewhat of a necessity. I don't think that massive capacity is essential here. She's around 5'6" and weights maybe 150 pounds. My friend and I both run the MR Metcalf. That pack and frame seem to fit her reasonably well, although setting it up for her was done in the field in short order for a couple hundred-yard run on fairly flat ground to help haul out an antelope. It should also be mentioned that we're trying to keep cost within a few hundred bucks. Of course, given the time of the year, this might be more easily achievable. Feel free to throw out your offers as well. Thanks!

Check out EXO’s K4 women’s frame.

I'm biased, of course, but I'll mention Western Edge Gear. The Long X (4000 inches plus meat shelf) on a 22" backboard would fit the use you describe.

My daughter loves her Kifaru 44 mag and duplex light frame. She's just a little taller but not much.

I had the same frame but different bag. I borrowed her bag for a turkey hunt and liked it so much I had to buy her another one.

I think the wide belt really helps smaller people with weight. Helps spread out the load on their smaller bodies. Something to think about.
Keep an eye out for used ones.

Looking outside of the hunting industry will open up many more options. Mountaineering/hiking will have more choices. Check out an REI store if there is one local to your area.

I would think you could fit a petite woman inside quite a few of the larger bags from SG, Kifaru, and Exo. Even kuiu. Just makes sure she stays still as if she's wiggling around it may make packing her out uncomfortable for you.

She isn't petite or I'm a giant. I'm 5'6" and I use the kUIU packs with no problems. In fact my husband is 5'10" with a long torso but our packs are set up the same. I have no problems with their packs and quite enjoy them.
Order one in set it up right before going to the field and she'll thank you.

This has been discussed among us many times previously. All in good fun, of course. Thanks for a good laugh this morning. I just might pass it on.

The sizes are an approximation and I could darn sure be off. Another fella on here pointed us towards kuiu and they certainly seem like a nice setup. Kuiu has a pretty solid reputation which is always a plus.
