Help finalize the "Dixie Zipper" (Mini CBK) for a group buy

This is my favorite clip. One version works on the belt. Buy the other version and it will work in the pocket.

I will source them and add to our store. For now they are on Amazon.

I am only seeing the left offset for belt like in the picture, cant find a right offset one for pocket on Amazon.

When do you think you will have them in your store, Im also fine waiting.

I am partial to a stick style sharpener, but that looks slick. A 3” long stick style sharpener with two grits would be handy.
I like that idea too. Keep em coming!

How wide for the stick? Like between 1/4 and 1/2”

I have been using the Lansky Dogbone ultrafine, so I do like the form factor having the short stick.

I have some stones that I am playing with right now too.

One thing I am going to test next is gluing just the diamond portion of these small stones onto the sheath.

Really trying to be creative, brainstorming makes some crazy dumb ideas, but also lets the brain or Rokslide Hive come up with “out of the box” solutions.

A 3” stick with a small way to integrate into the sheath (like a ferro rod) would be very svelte, and you could use the sheath as a handle. I would say something around the same diameter as the lansky crock stick rods would be perfect.

I like that idea too, and ideally an option for one with grit and just a plain steel.

I am working on a small simple sharpener. It is small and light.

Has 400 and 1000 grit. A leather strop would take it to absolute razor to slice paper. But, the wire edge from 1000 grit creates thousands of mini serrations to slice hide snd tissue. Takes only a couple passes to touch up the edge.

I think I have the proof of concept and am finishing design. There are different ways to grab it and putting your thumb or finger above the edge creates the angle.

This looks great! If that came in a leather holder that could double as the strop and have everything in a small package?

I will find them, and get them posted up here and then get them in the store.

I have been playing with lots of the ideas you are floating.

Keep them coming, I don’t want to comment too much so the ideas keep going.

I use a small paint stick with some leather glued to it and 1000 grit diamond compound. Throw in a piece of 800grit automotive wet sand paper and I can touch up a knife pretty quick to shaving sharp.

I don’t feel the need for stones or similar in the field. If my edge is messed up to the point where I feel the need to put it on a stone I should have done that at home before I left.

Aebl is stupid easy to get an edge on, nothing special needed

A micro strop with some pre cut and attachable wet sand paper would be a neat addition for guys who want a real sharp knife

Hmm, the 1000 grit compound on a small piece of leather would really be a trick. I have some sheet carbon fiber to play with.

Yes, this AEBL is so easy to sharpen and keep sharp.

Dosnt even have to be this big. But it’s light.

A light way to attach wet sand paper cut to size would be nice too. This is what I normally throw in the truck

I have several pieces of leather glued onto strips about that size laying around different places. They are mostly what I use to keep them sharp. The 1000 grit diamond stone is usually sufficient as well. I like the idea of the 1000 grit on leather.

I use a leather belt with white compound to finish off the Zippers. It takes the wire edge off.

I have seen a lot, but never considered diamonds grit.

I once had a tool box full of strops, stones, and diamond plates that I used to teach scouts how to sharpen their knives. I have used all sorts of gadgets too, until I learned how simple it was. Most of them were garbage or useless.

That is why I know sharpening isn’t that hard with a bit of education and instruction, because nearly every boy 13 or older could get a razor edge. Many of their junk Chinese knives wouldn’t hold one long... And, I had a file or a small sander to go to town to create a workable initial bevel.

Strops, regardless of size are pretty simple to make. With some of the fancier steels I really like the diamond compounds more than the typical colored blocks that you rub on. They just seem to do a better job. You can get pretty crazy on the grit though, I have some that goes to 8000 grit.

When people ask what I use to sharpen knives, and don’t want to spend a lot, wet sandpaper and a leather strop is a good starter. People not used to sharpening are not going to have fun with a stone.

Personally either my edge needs a reprofile on a stone or my machine (tsprof) or it’s getting the sandpaper and leather.

In our throw away society I think it’s only right that hunters know how to sharpen knives.

Wet sand paper on glass is as effective as any stone. Knife sharpening has as much fuddlore and confusion and BS as any shooting or ballistic topic…

In my scout box, I kept a few unusual/unorthodox things. Sandpaper and a piece of aluminum were among many other items to demonstrate how simple it is. I even kept a coffee cup in there to use the bottom rim without the glaze.

For the moment, this is my favorite field sharpener. Hopefully this helps in the idea pooling.
Those are light and simple. But, still larger and more weight than some want…

There are lots of options out there, just trying to thread the needle, if possible.

My plan has been to eventually find a few options, and then do videos as a service and help for customers to learn how to keep their Zipper slipping along under the hides.

And, it usually takes a lot of unlearning for some…
