I have a Tikka T3x Lite Compact in 7mm-08 I’ve been considering selling or keeping and replacing the stock. I’m looking at the Peak44 Blacktooth and Pure Precision Altitude. Anyone have experience with either of these?

i have four tikkas in which i put on proof carbon prefit barrels (well, one is a carbon six) and changed to the pure precision altitude stocks. zero issues, easy peasy.

Of the two stocks you are looking at the Altitude appears to have the better grip and the Blacktooth has the better comb and butt. If I were choosing between the two, I would lean to the Blacktooth. In my opinion, the low butt and high comb of the Altitude is a bad combo for recoil control. The Blacktooth’s grip is actually pretty decent for a traditional type sporter stock. I’ve owned one. The negative comb of the Blacktooth is a way better design than the Altitude. It’s not negative enough to buy you a ton of recoil control, but you won’t be fighting it like the low butt and high comb of the Altitude. Honestly though, I think the Peak 44 Bastion is probably a better design than both of these.

Does recoil control matter on a 7mm-08?
Why would it not? We aren’t talking about a pain threshold here. Its not about questioning anyone’s man card. It’s about direction of recoil and the amount of muzzle rise. Shooting one of those low butt stocks is annoying compared to one with the butt closer to the bore line.

I guess my question was more "would recoil control be prioritized over something else for a 7mm-08." Certainly not questioning anyone's masculinity. I have never bought a custom stock so curious of the logic to the various trades people make when deciding which is for them.
