HELP! boots smell terrible

Pulled out my Soloman boots the other day and the smell was really bad. I haven't used them since my first back country hunt this past September. Looking for the best method to kill the smell. I don't want to buy new boots as these still have a lot of miles left in them. Anyone have this problem after wearing the same socks for a week straight?

I have the same problem with one of my two pairs of Salomon boots. My Salomon Forces always stink. New insoles did not fix the problem. My other Salomon boots do not. I couldn't find anything that helped.

For my rock climbing shoes when they stink I’ll shove newspaper in there for a like a day and it soaks up the stink. I also use these deodorizing charcoal bags for my work shoes and scent balls for gym bags, sleeping bags, or anything that is susceptible to some funk.

Just put gold bond inside your boots and wear them around. I have sweaty feet and this helps with that and odor.

I have two pairs of Solomon forces the newer Gore-tex i use 4-6 days a week for work, never noticed a smell. I always leave on top of my locker to dry.

If I hunted in wet condition id probably use my boot dryer in the garage.

Try air drying in the sun maybe. You can purify water with UV Rays, maybe it'll kill the funk too.

My Salomons seem to have that "sweaty foot" odor when I take them off. I put them on a Peet Boot dryer every evening, and the smell isn't there the next morning when I put them back on.

A 50/50 solution of Vinegar and water or a 10% bleach solution. I've settled on bleach myself.

Try putting them in the freezer for a few days. Also odor eater insoles work well. Good luck!

Remove your insoles from your boots after every time you wear them. Moisture gets trapped under the footbeds and breeds bacteria that causes that funk.

Try a couple of large bottles of hydrogen peroxide, fill them up, let sit, empty and then dry in sun. The stink is bacteria trapped in pores. This works great in neoprene flats boots, literally will foam.

I was going to recommend the peroxide, baking soda and dish soap solution used for getting skunk off of dogs. Peroxide is a strong oxidizer that could break down some fibers if left on too long, so do a fresh water rinse.

Spray the inside of boots with some odor killer. Buy the Arm & Hammer baking soda freezer boxes that have removable sides. Put one box in each boot and leave the boxes in until fall. They absorb odor. Take the laces out of your boots, wash and rinse and air dry. I would also remove your inner sole and soak in non scent soap and air dry. Leave your boots outside for a couple of days while everything is drying out and then put away with the boxes. They should be significantly better come fall.

I've heard that vinegar will draw out the odor too - small glass of vinegar in each boot.

i put baby powder in there after usage. Dries it out and adds a fresh scent
