I have been waiting, somewhat patiently, for the release of the Browning Hells canyon SPEED line.
I do a bit of sheep hunting in November, the Hellfire line of insulated items had my attention.
Its really neat to see the influx of manufacturers getting into the quality clothing market.
With the new line from Pnuma offering unconditional lifetime warranties on a clothing line, it should be interesting to watch.
I had my heart set on a set of Hellfire pants and jacket until the Pnuma showed up with "the insulator" pant in the tatanka line.
$140 with a lifetime warranty vs $250 with no warranty other than manufacturers defects.
The clothing world is changing.
I had already committed to the Browning line.
I received a set of Hellfire items this week.
I thought I would share a few initial thoughts.
I have not tested or even worn these items. Its August folks. No desire to put on a set of insulated clothes in 100 degree heat.
I put them on to check the fit, within the air conditioned environment of my home. Thats it.
So, I will not comment as to the quality or performance of the line.
The first thing I found interesting was that the material used seems to be identical to the First lite corrugate material.
I own a lot of brands. Sitka, Kuiu, First lite, Kryptek, Kings, core 4 element, and others. The only two brands I have seen use this material are First lite, in the corrugate pants, and now Browning in the Hells canyon Speed line.
If you have not tried this material, and you don't own a pair of corrugates you may want to get your hands on an item that uses it.
Its different. Very different in my opinion.
It has a "foamy feel" to it. Thats the best way I can think of to describe it.
The Hellfire line has a very slick liner in it. Like a silk bed sheet, rather than a cotton sheet.
Lots of pockets. The zippers feel nice. Love the hook and loop velcro wrist closures and the waist drawstring.
The waist draw string can be pulled tight from under the bottom of the jacket, or from inside each pocket.
Thats nice. If you feel a draft, you don't have to take your hands out of the pockets to close it off.
The A tacs AU camo looks perfect for the environment I will be in. It also comes in FG coloring for those who want a darker pattern.
I cant speak to the "hero fit" or what its like to layer it. Some clothes layer well, others bunch and bind.
I am not going to layer up in august and spend a day in the clothes. We will have to wait to find out how it all performs.
I am still very drawn towards the Pnuma insulated line.
I have melted the sleeve of a Sitka kelvin on a lantern, I have torn several pant legs, I have snagged sleeves.
The idea of a comparably inexpensive item with a lifetime no fault warranty, well..... it keeps drawing me in.
The Hells canyon Speed line has several other offerings. I was interested in the insulted line. There are several other lines to choose from.
Just thought some of you might be interested.
