I hear with the HECS suit you can take risky quarter on frontal shots super low, hit leg bone/sternum and still kill them. Any one else see that today? He lucked out with that one. Lol.

I gotta lot of laughs reading this thread.

As to a Farady cage, it's only effective if well grounded. If you wear the HECS suit bring a grounding rod with you and a hammer and maybe a long ground wire so you'll have a little range of movement. Not sure how well it works with game but might keep you from getting static cling but again, only if you are well grounded.

If a Faraday cage required earth ground, it would be impossible to shield, for example, the engine controller in a tractor, isolated pretty well from the earth by it's tires. As an electrical engineer with a major ag company, I can assure you that we do it all the time without earth ground. The suit is referenced to the source of the emissions, your body, by contact with the skin. Disclaimer: still not interested in buying a suit, or saying that one would be effective for elk hunting.

I really wish Dudley didn't push these... ugh

Agreed. He’s a wealth of archery knowledge and overall, he’s a good guy for the sport. But I have hard time listening to a single thing he says.

The claims of it working are the videos of the guys hunting pets. I watched one of the shows for shits and giggles the other night. He had 3 blown stalks on a very nice PUBLIC land mule deer buck. He blamed the wind and other hunters a bunch, but the proof is in the pudding. The magic suit helped him about as much as the price of tea in China.

You can't use that to say it doesn't work unless you can say with certainty the deer didn't blow out because of noise, scent, some other factor. HECS doesn't claim to prevent an animal from winding or hearing you. That's what sucks about a product like this - not unlike a lot of scent control stuff it's really hard to prove its working in the field, or really at all without a very controlled test environment.

Scent control doesn’t work. They’ve proved that over and over already.

I agree, my point is that neither scent control nor HECS claims can be effectively proven or debunked without a controlled environment. The testing that throws doubt on scent control is carefully controlled as opposed to some dude sitting in a tree going "welp, seems like this is workin since the deer aren't running away".

My response to your comment wasn't because I don't suspect you're right (I do feel the same as you at gut level) but because I want a discussion about whether something works to be based on careful testing and not anecdotes and guesswork.

Just because you haven’t proved it to fake doesn’t make it real

Saying hecs works because someone hasn’t proven it not to is like saying there’s an invisible toaster floating around Mars because it has a gravitational field.

Animals can sense the earths magnetic field and navigate with it. I don’t discredit that at all.
But please show me some peer reviewed literature that shows terrestrial mammals can pick up on other animals electro magnetic signature. Show me some peer reviewed science that says a carbon faraday cage blocks not only terrestrial mammals, but birds and fish from picking up on other living creatures electro magnetic signature (that we haven’t even proved they can detect). Except for sharks - The ampullae of lorenzini.

You gotta point there. I just know we grounded ours, but it was used for another purpose which I cannont divulge.
