Hearing protection act (suppressors) introduced

2. FOPA 1986 - banned any centralization of a federal registry - the revised $0-tax NFA is now ONLY a federal registry, whereas previously NFA ownership information was used to manage the tax collection
My read of the FOPA provision (18 USC 926(a)(3)) is that it restricts the Attorney General from creating/requiring a registry. It doesn't prevent Congress from creating one.

Because no money.
The government is a business you know.

Usually when businesses income drops they reduce size or shut down.

They can effectively toss a hissy fit and “do there job” but not do it well.

Effectively punishing the American people.
Interesting thought. The money from current $200 stamps goes into treasury general fund. Not sure why they would pick the ATF to defund, but i guess anything is possible. Seems high unlikely with this administration, that they would defund law enforcement. I guess time will tell.

Which part of Doge do you feel you were "hoodwinked" on? Seems like many that are vehemently opposed to Doge say they cut "too much." Some say they haven't cut enough yet. Just curious on what you think?
EDIT - my post above didn't say that I think we have been hoodwinked about DOGE. We've been lied to so many times in the past, I wonder if this is just more of the same.

I think it was egos (primarily of two people), not any serious attempt to save money. If I was tasked with cutting government waste, I would start with the programs that have the biggest overall spending - like defense, health care and Social Security. (Maybe I missed it, but the main things I am aware of about the defense budget was an early statement that there would an 8% annual reduction in the budget, for five years. That effort seems to have been abandoned in favor of an increase in the defense budget to $1T.)

And while there were plenty of initial headlines of what was "saved" by DOGE, some turned out (or were reported) to be questionable, or overstated.

Basically I don't believe anything, especially from the government (, without proof. I admit that means I'm skeptical enough that I don't do independent research to confirm that reported savings are real.

I'm with you on a lot of it. I do think their intentions are good and more cuts will be coming. I also think a lot is overstated. Clearly they accomplished more than most in the past have tho. Massive protests about too many cuts. Many on the left having an extreme hatred toward Elon, when they used to praise him.

I also feel like everyone (Doge, or anyone else for that matter) underestimates how hard it really is to make changes to government. So many interests, from so many angles. I tend to fall down the middle on many of these topics and appreciate different point of views.

Even if only a portion of what was reported as savings was true, it wouldn't surprise me. Too many people/companies stand to win from keeping things the way they have been. More transparency, and term limits for Congress, are two things that IMHO might foster a change.

I do have some empathy about some of the protests. If we send $ billions to other countries (still - even after the creation of DOGE), and we (reportedly) have 750 military bases in 80 countries, then to me it doesn't make sense to cut back on nickel and dime stuff, like the National Park Service budget.

We only have less the 3.5 years left.

And if you don’t think some one in the government isn’t gonna feel butt hurt and lash out to the best of there abilities.

Oh, gotcha. If you are talking about after this administration, I could see anything being a possibility. I am thinking more near term. Of course ANYTHING is possible over time.

As I understand it stamp revenue goes into the general fund, not directly to the ATF. That has to be appropriated through Congress.

It may go into the general fund.

But there’s still gonna be some fed f bag that’s gonna get butt hurt and turn this into a contest.

That’s all those people want is to make a name for themselves and call it a “Legacy”

The money has to come from somewhere.

Some fund is gonna have less money.

If you think taxes will be lowered and the same amount of services will be rendered. I think you will be disappointed.

There gonna loose millions/billions in OT revenue.

And you still think we’re gonna see same day approvals?
🤣🤣🤣

You are more optimistic then me.

I hope I’m proven wrong.

I hope I pay zero taxes in 2026 and get same day atf approvals.
