I just left the left coast about 6 weeks ago. Rinella had an interesting podcast not long ago about the issues with the illegal weed farms and the garbage and pollution they create and leave behind. Sad deal but if there's water nearby they will haul in the black irrigation lines and get growing.

Just drive on those flats as far as you can away from those crazies. Luckily most of us will also be armed but flee if you can.

I have certainly seen a reduction in illegal grows in my area, almost every single canyon that has water and no trail has evidence of old grows, but I haven’t seen a recently occupied one for a couple seasons. I’m not sure if legalization or fire that burned brush that was used for cover is responsible for the change.

Stumbled on to a grow a few miles inland from this situation a number of years back. Took me a few seconds to figure out the black hoses and garbage bags. When it all clicked I hit the dirt. Damn if they were going to see me before I saw them. Stayed low and watched and waited for a long time. As I slowly snuck out of there I wasn't deer hunting anymore, I was human hunting. Not to kill but to identify and avoid. But my rifle was up and in the ready position and I was using my scope. Was kind of an intense afternoon. Knew a guy on the Monterey County Sheriff's Dept eradication team. You can imagine what happened next. You'd be right.

No worries, once Kamala is president the borders will be wide open and the cartel employees won’t have to worry about LE any longer. Everything will be equitable and awesome
Ugh... I know you comment on her in gest... but I wince now thinking about her being in the running. There certainly are more than enough stupid voters to possibly make that happen. Especially when they don't care about getting the most qualified person and best choice into that role. She'd almost immediately go after all MSR's and who the heck knows what else!

My buddy down in So Cal Corona area had the home across the street raided....a Mexican drug cartel house growing a bunch of weed. They got a dozen Cartel guys.

The cartel buys the house with little money down, owner carries the balloon financing...and they grow as much weed as they can in the 3,4,5 years until the balloon payment comes due....

The SWAT guys told my buddy its happening all over....they can make $4-5 million in a few years per house.

Unless it’s legalized everywhere, there will always be a black market for it. It’s a shame they just trash a lot of the places they grow it in, whether that be in the boonies or the suburbs.
Booby trapping public roads and pointing guns at people is unacceptable. I can only imagine how terrified that woman most have been. Instead of defunding the police it would be nice if the police had more funding at their disposal to stop these scumbags. For a state full of yuppies that prides themselves on preserving the natural environment I’ve never understood where all the public outrage is for the effects these grows have on the environment.

Nothin' wrong with every once in a Blue Moon taking a Stay-cation with the herb. For some of us our mental health (mood-wise, outlook) would be soo much better if that was something which could happen more regularly. If I had to guess I'd say once every 5 yrs or so I'll get to enjoy occasionally.

The greatest thing about legalization now is that there are lots of these edible products now! You have no idea!!! for those of us where smoking is just plain super painful due to COPD. (Grew up near two major oil refineries and lotsa 2nd hand smoke fr parents back then). That's such an awesome change!

Meantime, while I'm shouldering all these responsbilities I'm stuck with only using clinically accepted Rx's... along with the Rx of going out hunting.

Ya never know, perhaps in another 50yrs there won't be stigma re: growing for self. Be interesting to see what happens.

I will say this... I'm far more concerned about all these hunters that bring along a celebratory flask with them.

Alcohol and guns (and Alcohol and DirtBikes) is a horrifically bad mix.

I have no issue with the use of Mary Jane. Unfortunately, even where now "legal," crime problems abound.

I live near where this happened and go hunting nearby sometimes. Have heard a lot about these growers but luckily have never come in contact or seen any of it. Gotta be weary of where you are at all the time.

Well... even though legalized now... it's still a thing of value... which can earn folks money... so you're always going to have some amount of boot-legging going on, just like with alcohol. It's just economic competition. Unfortunately since the legal threat of loss becomes great... the inherent threat of force/violence starts coming into play.

That's kind of why I was mentioning once the stigma gets removed, and folks can decide to grow for themselves, without fear of stigma threatening their jobs or rights. It'd be interesting to see how the crime landscape changes then. You have to be able to break the monopoly hold on such a thing in order to remove the crime element.

You know... just like if everyone was truly allowed to exercise their 2A rights and we all carried... it'd be interesting to see how crime would just fall-off like crazy once they realized no matter where they are or who was around them, they could get shot for the criminal acts they are doing. I mean think about... if you knew that everyone around you... could take you out with the quickness?...if even grandpa over there in the corner...quietly sippin' on his Latte reading a book... could take you out? Gotta figure even the dumbest ones might re-think things a little bit.

Definitely some weirdos out your way. How bad is the Dolan Fire getting? I heard rumors of Cal Fire asking for CHP assistance due to being harassed by the illegal growers while on that fire.

I live in Southern BC, where it has been effectively legal for 10+ years, and factually legal for about 2 years. Big grows are down. Blackmarket dealers still exist, but thats because legal weed costs more than illegal weed. Just for ease though, the dispensaries have the bulk if the business. Other illegal drugs are still rampant, but I tell ya, nanny and poppa sure like that ointment better than pills. Nanny was rubbing it on poppa's stump where they took his leg off, and found that her arthritic hands didn't hurt anymore.
