I made a tragic error last week. I finally had a bull worth killing in range and my setup was great. I had plenty of time to execute my entire shot process.....with one fatal flaw.

I switched to a dome type call and for my entire life have have stored my call in my cheek....well the dome pushed my anchor out enough to cause me to shoot a little left.....

I stuck a bull in the humerus. My iron will sounded like a 2x4 hitting it. I broke off 5" and watched him walk away. Unaffected, didn't seem to break the bone.

Moral of the story is shooting with your pack, your gear, your odd positions, keeping your cool as they walk in....there's one thing that you need to add to that list.

Don't let your call affect your anchor. 20200911_072145.jpg

That's why I keep my call in my left cheek instead of my right since I'm right handed. I also know that I shoot to the left with my pack on so I plan accordingly for that. I screwed up my best chance last Friday and it'll be the 23rd before I get to hit it again. Hope you get another chance to redeem yourself.

Bummer deal. Crazy how something so seemingly insignificant can throw you off so much.

That sucks! I feel for you. Biggest call mistake I ever made was accidently "putting" like a turkey with my diaphragm call when I had a dandy 6x7 in the Gila walking by me at 15 yards. I meant to cow call to stop him. When I putted I panicked and lost my focus and shot over his back.

As a matter of fact, my profile picture was taken that day prior to the shot not 200 yards away from where I blew it.

I use a turkey call for elk or an elk call for turkey, they seem to be pretty much interchangeable.

One other thing to keep in mind..... If you carry a backup release, make sure it's the exact same model or style.

I lost my release earlier this year, which was a caliper style, and replaced it with a trufire hardcore max that has the hook style. I struggled all summer with shooting to the left thinking that it was my grip or I was yanking shots. Well, I decided to use my kid's release as a backup, which is a caliper style. I practiced with it a bit, and my shooting to the left woes disappeared. It's definitely the release style!!!

So I stole my kid's release for hunting 😂

Yes, life gives you the test first, then teaches you the lesson.

Precisely why I shared this. I've listened to Cody talk about velocity scrub from water, I've machined inserts to balance my wraps, ive run different nocks with different heads to close the deal and then screwed the pooch on a form oversight that I absolutely should have considered.

I'm not sure I'll ever wear it out. I'll lose it first. That is why I went with hot pink paracord.
