I bought the same one before my elk hunt but never used it but the reviews are good. It’s small and very lightweight

I'm using a fenix HL60r and it's great but a bit bulky.

I want to try the HM50r but it doesn't have red... TBD on if I switch but I've been happy with Fenix.

I've been using the FL75R, the rechargeable or batterey version. Which is super convenient. I also have a couple of the non rechargeable versions from Costco when they were selling them a few years ago. All are going strong and are what I reach for when I need one. I would be willing to bet the 85 series are a good bet too, they look nice.

The last two weekends I’ve spent quite a bit of time hiking at night as the temps have been in the triple digits during the day. I’ve been using the “dimmer” white light mostly. It doesn’t seem to attract as many bugs and gives plenty of light to hike on tricky terrain.

I don’t really think I’ve ever wanted much more brightness. My headlamp can light up the eyes of predators from quite far away without spooking them.

Moose Jaw has 25% off one item so I picked up a NU32, has a much larger battery and is slightly brighter. I’ll retire my 10 year old black diamond that has 3 straps and a battery pack that weighs like 10 lbs. This should be a hell of an upgrade.

I have 4 Petzel Tikka lamps. Has the red and 3 white levels. some of them have a glow in the dark ring so when you turn the light off there is a soft green glow from around the lens. Has come in handy a time or two in the tent to find the lamp.

Good light brightness and width...packed a Tahr off a mountian in NZ across shale, cliffs, and general sketchy terrain for a couple hours and did not find it lacking at all. Have used it countless times in and out of stands, finding downed game or just traversing and have zero complaints.

I’ve used the black diamond storm for several years now. I’ve never had issues with brightness and the red/green option is great to have.

Does anyone make a headlamp with multiple colors that you can dial down the intensity? Some of them are just too bright for my taste. I prefer a red lamp most of the time but sometimes green or blue is better and colors can used to convey messages to a distant partner.

Led lenser makes several that fit that bill. My mh10 came with green and red lenses and you can adjust the brightness pretty good and pivot the light up and down and focuse the beam since it has a glass projector in front of the led chip. Those lenses also fit my h7r.2 which is older and not quite as bright but the back literally has a dial for the brightness which is nice. Most of the lights everyone uses for hunting seem to be severely lacking lumens for my taste, im kinda surprised so many people use black daimond and petzl which both dont seem to be pro hunter and kinda sucked for their price in my experience when trying their lights. The led lenser lights are crazy bright, rechargeable and can strobe too. Some that i have can also accept regular AA or AAA batteries as a back up

You can use AAA batteries in it too so it'd still work for you

I have;
Black diamond storm- more options than necessary. I don't need white, red, green, and blue lights. And the controls are overly complicated. One button to do 7 different functions is dumb. One for colour, and one for brightness/on/off would be far more user friendly. However, I still prefer this one over....

Princeton tech- feels like cheap shitty plastic and filled with water when hiking in the pissing rain. Still works though.

Petzyl e lite- works great for what it is.

Energizer work light that is 10 years old and used daily monday-friday. On my hardhat at work. Takes 3 AAs, every 2 weeks. Has had rain, snow, concrete, been inside asbestos abatement enclosures, any sort of commercial or residential construction abuse you can imagine. Works great still. Heavy though.


I don't like rechargeable lights. I prefer to be able to swap a battery and keep those poor 6 year old lithium miners working in Africa's green energy mines.
