I've looked through several lights such as fenix black diamond pretzel and zebra. Im looking for a light with a red lense option but is a solid light with settings all the way around. I had a black diamond but guess it grew legs when the ex wife left me. I wasn't the most thrilled with the brightness it offered anyway. Using lithium it still seemed to lack

What red lense option headlamps yall ave and recommend? Thanks

I like my black diamond storm. Plenty bright and has red and green options. I also like that it has a button you can press so it wont turn on accidentally in your pack. All this being said go to a place like REI and ask questions and play with them. Make sure whatever one you choose has the feature that it wont turn on in your pack. Nothing like needing light to find out that its been on in your pack all day.

I’m a huge fan of Princeton Tec. They are made in USA. They own their factory, unlike black diamond, who just outsources to China.

I use headlamps for work, on my hard hat. Princeton Tec have been absolutely reliable.

for hunting, the Snap RBG is a very versatile light that isn’t too expensive.

Thanks for the suggestion on this, looks like one I am going to give a try.

The black diamond spot has been my go to headlamp. It has the red light, several brightness settings, and can be locked so it doesn't turn on in your pack. The single button operation has a bit of a learning curve, but is worth it especially when using gloves.

Check out the claymore Heady+ with diffused red light...I just picked one up and I'm liking it so far. It's a beefy son of a gun, but its real bright; and the red light is the brightest I have found...It's rechargeable, and has multiple spot and flood settings. Each mode can be dimmed down and brightened up.

I really like that. This may be the route I go. Thanks

another BD Spot fan; every year (or two) they get brighter- the newest ones are 350 lumens

pretty light, lighter yet (and better) w/ lithiums and as others have mentioned, the lock feature is a real battery saver

BD Spot or Storm for me. Now if I could just remember to lock the damn thing so it didn't turn on in my pack.

Regardless of my recommendation below, I'll give them a try, gotta support made in USA as much as possible, though I am a hypocrite at times.

My choices are because I want to stick with AA batteries for all the gear in my pack, not married to Fenix.

I have an older version of the Fenix HL30 and an HL50 for backup, both powered by AA. The HL30 has been awesome, good red light though not dimmable/brightable and honestly I wish it was a bit brighter at times. Has plenty of illumination at the higher settings, plus great battery life - though I think they all run about the same given brightness, time it's turned on, etc.

Worth a look among the other good recommendations in this thread.

Does anyone make a headlamp with multiple colors that you can dial down the intensity? Some of them are just too bright for my taste. I prefer a red lamp most of the time but sometimes green or blue is better and colors can used to convey messages to a distant partner.

no other colors, but the Spot you can dim the red down, also strobe it in an emergency.

Black Diamond Spot.
Like mtwarden said, they make them brighter every so often. Significant difference in the one I just got and one I had a couple years ago.

I thought real hard about “upgrading” to the storm and decided against it. Spot is bright enough and I have used it in extended periods of heavy rain and have not had any issues with the water resistance. Used it everywhere from rain/snow storms at Ranger school to Sand storms in the Middle East. It weighs a little less than the storm too.

I took a 300 lumen headlamp a glued a red lens onto it. It works great, perfect for night travel getting to where I want to hunt without broadcasting it to every hunter in the vicinity.

Love this little light for hunting

What kind of charger does that use? Will it work with battery packs like an anker.

It comes with a cord that goes into any USB port

Battery packs with USB ports will charge it

It’s a common accessory type plug. You likely to have cords that fit laying around.
