Trying to find something faster than my RCBS CM Lite to throw powder with. My RCBS Uniflow works fine for Staball 6.5 and Match, but I got close to +/- .5gr with H4350 (unfortunately I can't find my notes).
The 2 most popular powder throws for stick powders seem to be Harrells (@Carl Ross ) and the Lee Perfect Powder Measure. These powder measures are at complete opposite end of the quality spectrum. The Harrells is a piece of art and costs $240 and the Lee is extremely cheap feeling and cost $22. I didn't know the exact settings I needed to get 41 gr of H4350 (which is what I'd load) so I got both close then threw 30 charges.
I ran ~1lb of powder through each before throwing my charges. I used a pencil to mark +.4 to -.4gr increments on an RCBS 502 Beam Scale (like I said... super scientific).
Here's what I got. Other than going to a larger sample size would there be a better way to do this? I will probably load up 50 and hit the range in the next week or so. I have access to a 1,000+ yard range so I can see what happens at distance too. Through all of this I am probably still the limiting factor, but I shot some factory ammo a few weeks ago and can at least do some basic comparisons.
Harrells Culver 90 - Set at 70.05 - RCBS Scale set at 41gr. I marked which throws weren't smooth (red) and re-threw those as I found that significantly lowered the SD of my charge weights with ball powders. It didn't make much difference here but I ran the numbers on both as I'd just dump a rough throw back and rethrow it if I were actually loading.
