Anyone hunting with big revolvers? I'm no elk killer, but I do spend a lot of time hunting elk. It seems that in the timber the shots would be inside a hundo. So why am I carrying a 308 with a big scope?
Also it would seem easier to move with trekking poles if I could keep a revolver in a shoulder rig. Because with a rifle it's either carry the rifle or use the poles.

I had a chance to shoot the 460 in the 8 3/8" barrel with Wayne Van Zwoll when it first came out. We were working for SCI at their AWLS Lodge and he was doing a review. Ever since then I've wanted one.

Anyone else hunting with the X frames or other magnum revolvers?

Wayne said he was able to hunt deer and lopers out to 2 hundo with his.

I'd probably put a Leupold handgun scope on it.

I like that the 460 can fire the other 45 cal loads like 454 and Long Colt.
I also handload so that could really be fun to tinker with!

Thanks!

Because a scoped 460XVR with a 10.5" barrel weighs almost as much as my scoped .308 or Marlin 45/70 and the holsters are the size of a small saddle scabbard. That was reason enough for me to decide to carry a rifle instead.

Don't get me wrong, I think the big handguns are cool, I have a T/C Contender with a 30/30 super 14 barrel that I plan to use for whitetail this year but I'll be sitting in a tree stand.

Good luck if you decide to do it, I'd love to read your findings. That Bone Collector edition S&W came out with is sweet.
