Hit a snag...

Appreciate the info in here, guys. I'll be starting on a 6.5CM with 124 Hammers. My experience loading Hammers thus far has been with the 166g in my 30-06. To say load development has been "easy" and "impressive" for that rifle would be an understatement. It consistently shoots about .5 MOA, or even better when I'm going my part...

Mark have you thought about trying the 152s out of the 30-06? I would love to see 3100 FPS with that combo.

Yes, I will try some development with those in the off-season. Sticking with the 166s for hunts this fall.

6.5 Creedmoor ladder with Varget and the 124 Hammer Hunter out of my 20" barrel...

All 10 different loads went into a 1.1 MOA group. What really stood out is the consistency in linear speed – no big jumps or dips. Excited to see potential to run them right around 2900 and no pressure. Continually impressed with how forgiving Hammers are to load.

Yep, it’s pretty much just run them up to a speed you like, and see how they shoot. You’re probably done.

Loaded my first Hammers today. Ladder test scheduled for the morning, hopefully before it reaches 90 degrees.
7mm-08, by chance? About to load up a ladder test with some .284, 120 grain guys for mine. Starting at 41 grains H4895, .050" off the lands sound coherent?

Anyone had a chance to try out their new "absolute hunter" design yet?

I worked up a load with the 151gr absolute hammers in my 30-06

used Varget (a fast powder for the 30-06–typical max load around 51gr for a 150gr bullet) and ended up finding pressure way over the book listed max loads for a 150gr bullet.

final result was 3130fps ES 11 for 5 shots, 1/2’’ group at 100 yards. The only load development was finding pressure at 3180fps and backing off a grain. Haven’t tried any other powders yet to see if I can squeeze some more juice out of it...but it’s a sweet load as is so I might leave it alone!

Yea, 7mm-08. H4895 is a good powder for the lighter bullets in 7mm-08. Start at 41 and go up in 0.5 grain increments to 43, then go up in 0.3 grain increments from there. That's what I'd do. You'll find the Hammers are very forgiving.

Thanks boss. Will let ya know how it goes.

Anyone have some speeds with a 6.5cm 124 hammer and H4350 yet? I’d like to give them a go but I’m not going to find enough varget to justify it at this point
Really kicking myself for "saving money" and not grabbing the Varget I found last month. Idiot. My 6.5 gets right at 2850 with 41.4 grains H4350

Pressure signs after that? Hodgdon data with 123 lists max at 44.8. Curious if you ran out of case volume, hit pressure or both. They list the 44.8 velocity at 2950. If I could squeeze 2900 out of H4350 I think I’d be happy.

Im trying to consolidate powders and stick with H4350 and xbr for everything Iv got. Makes justifying a 8lber easier

If you guys can find Varget I think it’s better for the lighter bullets. I’m using the 110 hammer hunters and with 43.8 gns of varget I can get them going 3,220 FPS out of a 26” barrel.

H4350 works better for the 140 gn class bullets in the 6.5 creedmor.
