Hammer is bent...need advice

Ok so when my pedersoli showed up in the mail the box was messed up where the hammer was. I didn't know enough to recognize the hammer was slightly bent. Now I am having a lot of hang fire issues. I thought it was the nippli so i replaced that. But now it looks like the hammer isn't hitting the nipple flat. My percussion caps are blowing out the side and not down the fire hole.

I can't seem to find a replacement hammer....and i am in a hurry. So can I put it in a vice and bend it? Should I heat it before I bend it.

Please send advice.....I am desperate.

If it were mine and was in a hurry to use it, I’d try to fix it with the vice. I wouldn’t imagine that heat would make a difference, if it easily bent from rough shipping it’ll probably easily bend back from gentle vice action.

Another thought I just had, if it attaches From the side with a screw like I’m thinking of one of my old style muzzleloaders, you might be able to fine tune the way it faces against what it’s screwed to with a file or dremel if tweaking it in the vice doesn’t straighten it out enough.

Thanks for the thoughts. The bend is twisted so shimming will not solve the problem and it needs to go in a little.

i wonder what they use for metal...i tried to bend a hammer once for scope mounting and it wasnt budging.i think some parts are cast. i opted to just buy a new one. if you cant un twist it i would call around and see about a replacement. maybe try Track of the Wolf.

I have tried to find a pedersoli hammer online but they are not available. I wonder if there is a different brand that would fit but i don't know where to start. Maybe i will call track of the wolf on monday.

Why not contact pedersoli, explaine the situation perhaps they will ship you one. I know you stated in a hurry, but the fix might be worse than what it is now. If you decide to attempt too re-bend it I would use heat and go slow.

Sounds like you have more problems than a bent hammer. If the cap is igniting, the angle of the hammer strike shouldn't have any effect on the charge going off. Just guessing without seeing it, I'd bet you at least need a whole new lock.
