I'm in commiefornia so I need to run a lead free bullet. I am eyeing the 80gr hht for a 22cm build. Anyone have any feedback about running heavy for caliber lead free bullets out of a 22cm or similar cartridge?

That small caliber, heavy bullet logic goes out the window with copper imo. That’s for frangible bullets, not monos.

IMO, with copper and big game you need speed.

thats what I am a little worried about...

I think it'll be OK but not ideal. The DRT is supposed to be the top dog lead free according to this forums beliefs. They make a .224 79gr.

D16 deer tip over pretty easy in my experience but I have only used a 6.5prc and 270.

The 79g DRT at 22cm velocities generates fantastic wounds. They are nothing like a mono.
unfortunately DRT is out. They wont ship bullets (not loaded ammo) to CA unless to a FFL which I am not doing...

Hammer 69.5 HBC’s run 3500 in my 18” 22creed.

You may already know this, but make sure you have enough twist if your going to be running the heavier .22cal monos

have you killed anything with it?

Not with that particular bullet, but I’ve had good success with hammers in other various calibers. The Hornady 70gr cx mono worked well out of my 22arc the other day though on a 200lb boar at just under 100yds. Was angling towards me hard. Lined it up for the vitals and he dropped on the spot. Muzzle velocity 2600fps. So I’m sure the 69.5gr going 900fps faster would be devastating from the creed. I think it will be a good candidate and weight class for a short creed. Although I’m sure the 80hht would work just as well too. Just depends on your specific needs, distances, and size of the game you’re after.

Even if you wanted to, find an FFL that doesn't laugh their butts off when you tell them a company will only ship projectiles to an FFL. All the ones I called said "find another bullet manufacturer" ... they are not wrong.

Agreed what a joke

No experience with the 22 creed but a 63 gr absolute hammer out of a .223 Remington has worked really well for me out to 300 yards on deer/aoudad ewes/hogs/axis deer. Lotta bang flops. I have it going 3200fps using Ramshot Tac powder. As long as you’ve got the twist rate for it the heavier bullet would be just fine I’m thinking.
