Hammer .308 192gr HBC range report and verified BC

Very good write up and documentation of this setup. I have some of these same bullets and am about to work up a load for my 300 SAUM Improved with a 21” C6 barrel.

Your velocity seems very low to me. My rifle above runs 185 Juggernauts at 3050 with the magic pixie dust RL26 and runs the 195 TMK at 3020 with the same powder.

In my experience with Hammer bullets, I usually see 50-100 fps more velocity than a similar weight cup & core style bullet. Not that velocity is the end all but as long at it shoots well, there’s no downside that I can see.

I’ll be interested to see my results.
4350 has always been slow for me, but it’s consistent and temp stable.

I’ve considered trying some different Vihatouri powders which show a letter better velocity for the same pressure in GRT.

I’m definitely getting extractor marks at this level. Titanium actions anecdotally show pressure earlier, so that could be in play.

That being said, your quoted velocties seem very high. Load data I have for 300 Win Mag and 300WSM barely pushes 190s that fast out of a 24” barrel. RL26 certainly helps, but you may be overpressure and just not seeing it yet.

I normally expect H4350 to be 80-100fps slower than some other powders.

I did work up some loads with the 192HBC today. Ran 58-62 grains of RL17 @ 3.120”. Results below.

QL calculated the 62 grain load to be 65k psi. There were no traditional pressure signs which is typical of Hammer bullets. I could probably go higher but I’m satisfied where it ended up at 62 grains.

Yeah, that’s well over any published 300WSM data I can find for a 24” barrel, but I stay away from Reloder powders.

What’s your H2O capacity on the SAUM improved case? My ADG 300WSM cases average out at 81.8gr H2O.

This 300 SAUMI Improved case is actually a 6.5 SAUM case necked up. I need to
measure an actual 300 SAUM fireformed case. ADG made a limited run of cases for Paul at North American Ammunition and I picked up a few hundred of them.

I may run some H4350 just to get a comparison.
