I know I am rookie compared to many of you. I honestly dont know how some of you do it. Between time off, time away from the family, finances; Slam goals are demanding. However, I have the bug either way! What I really love about sheep hunting is the anxiety and buildup of a trip. Starting with an outfitter selection, writing a check (with lots of zeros), preparing gear and a list, preparing your body. It all just builds and builds, creating this potential volcano of emotion. When you hear those words, “Good shot, he’s dead”, the eruption of emotion is like nothing else. Like many of you, I just feel at home in the mountains, as if I have a tether to them.
This sheep trip to Baja/Loreto, MX, did not disappoint. Thanks to Southwest Airlines, I had some added stress to the trip. Cancelled flights on Christmas Day, lost baggage (including rifle), and thousands of dollars spent on high-demand replacement flights, this trip already started with plenty of diversity. One way or another, I made it there. The goof thing is the crew had an extra couple of days to glass up some rams. I really hate borrowing a rifle, it’s almost like borrowing underwear. I shot one rock at 500 yards and heard, “you’re good, let’s go”. I was like hold up, “how big was that rock”, “smaller than a sheep”, I heard. I’m positive if I wanted more trigger tI’ve everyone would have been fine, it just sounds better like this.
Anyways - the pics do the rest. Happy Hunting to all of you! If sheep are a dream, may the odds be ever in your favor. Happy Holidays And God Bless!
