H4831sc 7mm Rem Mag

Anyone loading 7mm Rem Mag with H4831sc? How are the results, any data you can share? Should also mention I have some ELD-X 175's I would like to test out, if you have info on that as well.

I use H4831 in mine so this may give you a starting point since it is not the sc. I use 58.0 gr of H4831 with 160 gr AB. 3.290" This powder is not at fast as Retumbo for me but it is more accurate. This is for a TIKKA T3. Hope this helps.

H4831SC is my go to in the 7mm Rem Mag, but I'm saving the little I have left for fall 2021. I'd start low and work your way up, depending on what load data you look at for this combo the min/max loads are all over the board. I started getting pressure signs at 65.0 gr with 150 ELD-X so I backed down to 64.0 and have had good luck. It's not the fastest powder, but it's been really consistent for me.

I know, rough times. H4831SC will definitely work, I just didn't like the case density when loaded long. I don't remember powder charge off the top of my head but I was launching a Berger 168gr VLD at 3,000fps which is where I usually aim to be. In your case utilizing what you have (and what I should have done) I would start with the end of the bearing surface of the bullet right at the shoulder/neck junction, and flirt with extending seating depths from there once you find a velocity node. After reading this article (and many others, but this one is the most data driven with multiple accredited shooters) I've stopped worrying about touching or being within a magical distance from the lands, and started loading where I could optimize multiple aspects of a load. Just my .02, hopefully you can get something to work for ya.

I have had great success with H4831sc in my 7 Rem Mag shooting the 165gr Sierra Gamechangers. I'm loading them 0.035 off the lands with a charge of 67.4gr of H4831sc and Federal 215 primers. I found this combo produces .5MOA groups with velocity about 3020fps out of a 26" barrel. I use this same powder in my 300wm shooting 180gr pills, so it's nice to have one powder for both.

Just came upon this post, I just did load development on a Christiansen arms 7mm. 168 grain Berger, 65 grains of H4831SC brought it in at 3000 FPS. I ended up finding a seating depth node .025-.035 off the lands. Sub .5” moa out to 600 yards.

I originally used 4831 with 154gr SST’s cause that’s what we had on hand but I worked all the way up to 68 grains I believe, still not showing pressure signs but only getting about 2850 FPS. I could stack em in one hole but I wasn’t satisfied with the velocity. After months, I got lucky and caught some H1000 online and of course paid a little extra. The very next week at a gun show a guy had a whole case of H1000 for $40 per 1lb. I forget how much, but with the H1000 I’m now pushing a 160gr about 3200 and it’s a mild load.

If you can get it give H1000 a try. Best I've found with my & Rem Mag.

With my 7 mag, I’m having real real good results with N560

I've done well in the past with H4831 with 150 gr. Ballistic Tips. I switched to H1000 with heavier bullets.

Mine all seem to prefer RL22 to the 4831.

I'm running old stock 150 Nosler Solid Base with 64.5gr H4831sc and it does well.

I picked up a 50ct. box of 160 Nosler Accubonds, but I'm hesitant to burn the powder and projectiles on workup when all I have is 50 bullets. But I really want to find a bullet in the 160 class that my older rifle likes.

H1000 is on my wish list of powders as well. Maybe the IMR Enduron series will be well liked and I can move to that for better availability.

I shot 65 grains of h4831 with Sierra 160 grain hobo in 5 different 7mags. Worked great.

Here’s about 250 rounds (168 VLDs) out of a 7RM X bolt over the past couple months. H4831sc did best in the 62-63 gr range at 2.700” CBTO. Berger will email you load data if you’d like, they’re quick to respond.

I found that my 7mag 160 partitions were sub MOA with 4831sc with low to min charges. I’m talking 2700 (maybe 2800) fps, it was a low 60s grain charge in a Norma case. Not what I was looking for, but accurate nonetheless.


I went with a different powder.
