I bought a couple new barrels in December from a gunsmith that has always done great work for me. Based on past experience, they seemed to be taking longer than normal, so I wrote on March 22nd gently asking for an update with no reply. I followed up yesterday April 9th and they wrote back saying the barrels had been shipped/delivered on March 13th and gave me the Fedex tracking. When I looked at the Fedex confirmation, I realized they had shipped to my old house in a different state. I had given them my updated address upon ordering in December and they had confirmed this was on file (in fact when they responded yesterday they claimed to have sent to my current address).

When I wrote back saying they had shipped to the wrong address, the gunsmith responded they only have my current address on file and hopefully I can track down the package with the new homeowners at the old house. This feels like a very nonchalant response to a mistake that was ultimately theirs - am I overreacting? I have asked them to file a claim with Fedex to track down the package, or otherwise refund me, but they are being very slow to respond now. Any advice on how to proceed? At what point do I take the nuclear option and just file a chargeback with my bank?

In the interest of giving them a good faith chance to make this right, I'm refraining from publicly naming the group at this point.

Make sure you do all contact through email and keep all of the emails. You'll end up filing a CC dispute about it, I'm sure.

Unless they respond to me soon, it unfortunately looks like we’re indeed headed for a cc dispute. Luckily I have email documentation of everything

First off...are you being unreasonable? No.

But I'd try to work with them to get my barrels that I wanted. Seems it wouldn't be too hard to attempt to track down stuff, I mean...they did send it to your old address...it's not like they sent it to some rando across the country. That's just me and mistakes happen and how they handle things dictates how and if I do business with them in the future.

Example...I was once sent a bore guide from a company. It was the wrong one and I didn't order the wrong one, they sent me the wrong one. I called they shipped out the correct one and asked me to send them the incorrect one back. I sent it back and never heard a word. So in short, I paid the shipping for their screw up...do you think I'll look at them first the next time I need a bore guide? Nope...but they took care of the issue and made it right.

Life's too short to look for ways to be pissed off...it's not hard to be pissed or happy if you want to be. Good luck, I hope you get your barrels.

Thanks for that perspective Judd, agreed it'll work out one way or another, and I was just looking to vent a bit. I'm indeed in parallel trying to see if I can get in touch with the new occupants of the old address, if so all good. I do generally always want to give folks the benefit of the doubt and mistakes definitely happen.

There are time deadlines on chargebacks. Make sure you meet the deadlines for your card.

What does the invoice say in terms of delivery?
