Gun cradle systems

As a Gunbearer owner I've never loved the shoulder attachment. I've also tried the Talarik Sling Hook and one other brand I can't remember the name of. They always feel like they aren't secure enough, are in the way, or hurt more than they help. The Slik 3 looks really nice but I can't get over its weight, which that metal bar in the bottom rest is probably half of. I just pinged them because they don't post an official number and they said it's 13 ounces. Shoot, my BTR glassing stool is 16 and I was thrilled to get it down to that. Are y'all really rolling with a rifle carrier that weighs that much?

I felt the same way. I just would not carry a rifle sling that weighs that much. That is why I use the GB cradle with the SLIK SLING top strap. I REALLY like the SLIK SLING top strap. That GB cradle and SLIK SLING top strap can be easily modified to fit other packs and belts, nearly anything.

Did you buy this separately? It doesn't seem to be sold individually.

Unfortunately, you are correct. You can buy the straps separately, but you have to buy the set to get the shoulder strap post for the top strap. I bought the set and ditched the cradle. The cradle works well, it is just too heavy. Of all the cradles by the various makers, I like the GB the best. It is fastest and simplest for mounting, dismounting and remounting the firearm into the cradle without using 2 hands.

I am working on an alternative post for the top of the shoulder strap.

to a small rectangle of plastic, metal, or carbon fiber panel the same width as the shoulder strap and long enough to be secured to the shoulder strap with 2 wire ties, above and below the post, similar to SLIK SLING post mounting. The SLIK SLING post is a little taller, and made of plastic. but I figure the solid brass one from Amazon will work. You could also use a leather strap attached at the top of the pack with an elastic loop and punched with a series holes and slits instead of the SLIK SLING strap. However, the SLIK SLING straps work so great, I just bought 4 of them for my other packs, and for spares. They are made of urethane, so they will probably outlast me, barring accident of some sort.

I will post pics when I get this made. I am also experimenting with another 10mm ball post from Amazon. I will let you know how it works out.
