Gun bearer vs. belt pouch for gun carrying

I recently ordered a gun bearer(not the universal model) from Kifaru, and while it hasn't come yet so I have yet to try it out, I've seen that some are using a belt pouch to hold the butt of the gun and securing the gun on their pack with straps on the pack. I think both methods would have their pros and cons, but what about those that have experience with either or both? What do you like/prefer/recommend of the two methods for carrying a gun on your pack?
