Guided Elk Hunt

The season and location are critical, that said I've had it 75 one day, and 22 with snow the next. Also variable on how much walking you will be doing vs sitting. My experience as a guide is many clients are sitting 90% of the time, so layers and and a foam pad or two. The altitude is no joke, and it can hit many people causing fatigue. We rode horses in the dark both ways, and some clients were not comfortable on the horses. It's not a trail ride, the horses are used for a reason, and I've seen multiple clients bow out after just one day not being comfortable on the horse. Be specific with you guide as to your experience and your expectations. Good luck - it's so much fun!

Haven't fully decided on what month yet. I emailed and asked about combining a red stag/elk combo. They offer Bull Elk Hunts (September-March) and Stag (August 15 - March).
According to their website, "High Adventure Ranch maintains a quality breeding program that includes introducing different genetics and limiting the number of Elk hunts per year." High Adventure Ranch - Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt
I don’t mean this to sound condescending, but I get the impression you don’t quite grasp the type of hunt they are selling. I’ve read through their website. This “guide service” is not your typical guided elk hunt or ranch hunt out west. This is a high fence environment. These animals are completely contained within an enclosed environment and are probably rather tame towards humans. Their “guided hunt” comes off as misleading to me. They want to make this sound like a western hunt but it’s closer to hunting cattle on a farm. You will not be “out in the elements”. You will likely be walking around a contained space and choosing the animal you are willing to pay for then walking up and shooting it with very little challenge. Google the temps for that area and wear whatever is typical for that. You don’t need anything special or technical as you are essentially staying in a hotel with elk outside. If that’s what you desire, that’s cool, have a good time. But what you will experience is not really the type of “hunting” that you find people talking about and giving advice on this website. If I’ve misread your understanding of this experience, my apologies, but it really seemed you had some confusion.

I appreciate it, I did have a little confusion. I appreciate the help in clearing that up for me.
