Ive heard a lot that they can be a finicky bullet... any idea why?

I may try a hammer or something if these dont work out

I tried them and found there was a good amount of weight variance between bullets; that's why I mentioned weighing them and matching them by weight. When I had my PRC, I ran the 175 ELDX.

I know a guy using 177 hammers but from a 28 Nosler. I used 143's from my 7stw. This 7prc is using 12gr less powder than my stw, I don't think it has the oomph <wallop> for a 170 solid.

Gotcha. Yeah I could drop back in weight too. Those bullets are just spendy enough I want to pick one that will work if I order them. Or maybe ill just put up with the ELDX and roll with the 175s

I may have to. Im a big fan of the original accubond that I shot out of the 300 wby. Ibe tried the ABLRs in the 300 B, 2 different 7 PRCs, a 300 prc and a 6.5 prc. None of them seem to love the bullet. Its a shame since in theory it strikes me as a perfect hunting bullet. I may just go back to the regular AB or try something mono for variety

To 600 yards from a 7 PRC you should have enough velocity for mono’s. I’ve had good accuracy and terminal results from the 145 LRX out of my 280 Rem at a MV of just over 3,000.

If you're hell bent on mono's take a look at the 160 Cutting Edge Lazer. Worked well for me on the one LR shot I used em for on game.

Im not necessarily stuck on a mono. I just want something more controlled than a berger for expansion. Ive had issues with bergers in the past.

Which Berger or Bergers and what impact velocity?


I have a 7mm STW and also had issues with Berger 180 hunting vld.
My STW shoots Hammer 143 Hunters or 145 HHT into one hole if I can aim and manage recoil well enough. Those bullets have killed a bunch of animals for me and fly very very well at distance. Same STW shoots Berger 195 quite well but lower stability due to a traditional 9 twist barrel.
With a 7 PRC twisted optimally for heavier bullets you could probably step up a hammer weight class. Best performance is with a very well stabilized bullet.

ABLR are very picky, so I would try other bullets and powders.

Hammers are an excellent blend of mono and faster expansion bullets in my experience. Just keep your impact velocity appropriately high and stabilization high.
If going Eld x/m, Berger, ablr, TMK keep your impact velocity appropriate ( usually too fast for closer shots)

The Accubond you mentioned earlier fills that bill and should have enough velocity to perform well to 600 out of your PRC. 140’s out of my 270 Win work very well for elk. I’d imagine a 140, 150 or 160 would do what you seek.

The 245 eol at roughly 2800 and 2650ish. Ive also had poor luck with ELDX and SSTs.

I sold my 300 prc for the 7 after having issues getting anything besides the EOL to shoot. Christensen

Thags kind of why I was thinking hammers. I like the ABLR or AB performance but want something with a higher BC than the ABs and something that I can make shoot

ABLR are notoriously and in my experience picky to load.

AB are very easy to load. Not picky

Hammers are also THE most consistent lot to lot of any bullet I have tried, I never have to adjust my load and have bullet lots 3-4 years apart.
All other bullets vary lot to lot, some more than others but they all vary. Sometimes that requires a load adjustment and sometimes it doesn’t.
