You and I are near the same age. You likely remember back in the 50's when all the "Outdoor" magazines would have on the cover, in extra-large print, "KEG HEAD BROWNIES". Which always triggered me to pay the fifteen cents for that month's issue.

I actually think they were referring to a "KEG" of nails.
