Just read in the Billings paper that they found an overdue hiker outside of Livingston that had been killed by a grizzly. Be careful out there, bears are out and hungry!
If you find a news article with details please share.

The article is on the Billings Gazette site, but I don't know how to post a link. Didn't give a lot of details other than the found him the day after he left. Had a wife and 4 children.

Pretty terrible. Wonder if he was carrying spray or a side arm? Can’t be too careful anymore, encounters are getting more and more frequent.

The article says he was shed hunting- wonder if that somehow played into the encounter? Or was it just plain bad luck crossing paths?

This is just so horrible for that family, sounds like they have been through so much recently.

So sad. Reminder for us all when in grizz country, anything can happen. I can only hope it was a quick death for this young man.

It is happening way too often and there are a lot more grizzlies than the official numbers indicate as far as I can tell. My sons and I had three close encounters with griz last year while bow hunting elk near YStone. We used to go out with two guys, now we go with three and one carrying a shotgun with slugs and the other two with 44s.

Living in MT, this is becoming more and more frequent. Tons of people have moved here the last few years so more people in the woods= more grizzly encounters but there are definitely more grizzlies here than desirable. Delisting them is definitely a must but with the political aspect, it may never happen. Stay safe

I carried an AK-47 yesterday while shed hunting alone. I didn't see any sign of bears, which in my area is a guarantee if you go for a quick walk. So I'm thinking they aren't awake yet or they are concentrated elsewhere here in NW WY.
