My unit? I don’t own any unit in any state. That’s great that you help guys, that’s the way it should be. Like I said, I don’t agree with someone joining just to ask for a specific unit to hunt. It probably reflects the effort they would put into the hunt.

But it’s inaccurate to suggest that people don’t want them hunting that state. We were all “new guys in the area” at some point. No one person owns the public lands we enjoy, that’s the beauty of them. We can get mad at people hunting property we actually own.

Love seems like a stretch, guess I’m just not as bitter about them as you are. All of the units I hunt are OTC. Varies from year to year depending on species and my calendar for that year. For elk, I’ll hunt the Alsea, Stott Mt, Willamette, Santiam, McKenzie, Tioga. For deer I’ll hunt Heppner, Fossil, Desolation, Willamette, Santiam.

I can see you’re a guy that operates in black and white with conflicting viewpoints. You help 20-30 guys a year but you hate non-residents? Weird.

I guess you must really hate Rokslide and think it should only exist for the classifieds?

I’ll need a lot more specifics instead of half the state. Where is the best area you’ve hunted over the counter?

I really enjoy Rokslide. You missed the point of my post—no one enjoys more guys in their area. I recognize it benefits the state in general. As you see, many residents of Idaho (and Colorado) feel their state has gone too far in nonresident opportunity compared to state’s like Wyoming that are harder to draw.

I’ll keep helping 20+ guys per year and wishing them the best. Same with many other old timers here. The nonresident flood seems to be increasing and that’s where many feel it’s gotten out of hand.

Asswipe here. Don't go on a forum as a new guy and ask ignorant questions period. Get on and read. Use the dang search function. Call the Biologist. Do your due diligence. There is no magic shortcut. If you get on a forum, any forum and spend a little time, you'll see that that rude kind of question is not cool. In this case, all five should be doing research. Bottom line is if you are not committed to elk hunting, stay home. We don't need more people out pressuring the elk and mucking things up.

So you’re asking for more information than the OP you were chastising? Haha

Unit and area depends if I’m hunting rifle, bow, or muzzleloader, early or late season.

You said you hated all the non-residents, but it sounds like your issue is with the state management.

idahohikker is spot on....love it or hate, it's how 90% of us feel. We dont like non-res hunters, period, exclamation point. The over-saturation of non-res hunters has put an extremely sour taste in most of us serious hunters here in Idahos mouths. It's fairly black and white. Sorry. Like was said above, if that makes me an ass, so be it......ps we hate the pony tail Hush'n crew too, just sayin...

Lots of Hate,
Idaho Hunters
Rat tails, not pony tails lol

You don't deal with the NR pressure like Idaho does because Oregon sucks as a hunting destination. See lots of Oregon plates in the fall in Idaho, if the hunting is so good in Oregon why don't they stay over there? Seems pretty simple. Be cheaper for them too.

If you live in Utah why are you weighing in on Idaho? Do you hunt other states besides the one you reside in? See how that works...

I’ll hunt where I want and am legally able to do so. There’s a long list of reasons of why I’ll try and hunt multiple states.

Seems weird that a guy who lists his profession as an archery shop owner would be against people hunting other states.

We’ve made our points. Let’s call it good and not go back and forth indefinitely. Don’t start slinging mud at my man Sneaky. Some are cool with infinite nonresidents, some aren’t. Some are cool with first post tell me the best areas, some aren’t.

I wish you the best, mr. cantankerous.

And I've moved on from the archery business as well. Glad to know you have mastered the art of reading profiles though. That's impressive. If you apply that same skill to paper maps you're well on your way to a successful hunting career.

Some feel the need to speak for everyone, some don’t. Some sit atop their high horse of hunting standards and opinions, some don’t.

If you don’t want to be debated then don’t attempt to speak for an entire group of people by making blanket statements that amount to nothing more than opinion.

I hope you have success this year and find yourself not being bothered by non-residents.

You’re an idiot. Im done.

No one wants more non residents in their specific areas in states that are getting overwhelmed with nonresidents, even if they recognize some benefits as a whole.

You gave half of the state as your hunting area because you don’t want to lose your specific spots and wouldn’t give any specifics. The OP wanted the best areas—he wanted specifics. Give him specifics or shut up.

I will talk be talking to you again.

Wow, so you mean at some point you’ve taken up residency somewhere that you weren’t originally born and raised? I think there’s a word for that...

The point applies that you were in that business and held the opinion that being a non-resident hunter is a bad thing. Which seems counterintuitive to the business. But since you’re out now that’s a moot point.

I’m glad you’re impressed by something as simple as reading. You might give it a try while you look up the definition of “assumptions” when it comes to a successful hunting career.

I’ll await your guidelines for what dictates a successful hunting career so that I might hope to live up to them.
