Hi All, I'll be heading to the Tetons / Sawtooth mountains this summer with some non-hunting friends for a backpacking trip. Plan is to fly into Jackson, WY and spend a few days in Grand Teton and then drive (via rental car) to Sawtooth for a few nights before flying out of Boise, ID. Routes on our list include Paintbrush Canyon-Cascade Canyon and Teton Crest Trail in the Tetons. Toxaway to Alice Lake and Alice Lake to Twin Lakes in the Sawtooth.

Group size is 3-4 people who are all in good shape. Any recommendations (or things to avoid) from fellow members who have been before?

Thanks in advance!

My wife and I hiked to Surprise and Amphitheater Lakes in the Tetons when we got engaged. It ended just below Disappointment Peak and it was incredible!

Not sure what time of year you are going. Snow can be an issue into June. My brother and I tried to do paint brush in late May last year. The trail was mostly snow but there was too much bare ground to wear snow shoes. Snow was crusty but wouldn’t support weight without them. We tried making a go of it but ultimately ended up camping at lower elevations and moving on to Yellow stone for more options.

Thanks, guys! That's helpful, we're planning on going later in the summer so hopefully the snow shouldn't be an issue.

Any others have experience or recommendations?
